its not so much about the extra walk. i have a chair. the "normal" spots just aren't wide enough to get a chair, a full open door and a vehicle into. then if the person in the next stall parks right on the line its not possible. we have had them do that in the hc spot. the next stall over will be a "normal" spot and they will park over the lines and my husband will have to get in and reposition the truck for me to get in. it really is embarrassing sometimes.

I had HC parking placard before (and for a short time after) my hip replacement surgeries. I was so grateful to have it when I really needed it. The number of people who park in HC spots is ridiculous. I keep a pair of needle-nose pliers with me & when possible (safe), will yank out the valve stems & put the caps back on. I'll be in a shit-ton of trouble if I get caught, but I love giving these idiots a bit of karma.

What you do if you see one is get a tool that can unscrew the valve stem on their tyres. Loosen the stem on a couple of wheels and let the air out. You are not really doing any damage, but it will be a major inconvenience to them, and maybe they will think twice about parking in a handicapped spot the next time.

Absolutely agree with you . I,m quite severely disabled too . Over here in the U.K. , there is never any enforcement . In fact if you spot someone and approach them You tend to get insulted and told to mind your own business

In California it's a minimum $265 fine. For parking in a handicap without a placard or plate. Minimum there is no maximum on the fine. God bless

So my wife had polio at 2yo and always walked with braces and crutches. So I appreciate you looking after the one perk the disabled get in life. She's in her 60's now and it's harder but I can't tell you how often I see nonstickered cars in the spots. And a lot of times I'll see somebody who looks just fine. Matter of fact, the other days some kid ran out of a dollar general and got in his handicap vehicle! Poor guy.....

As a disabled person let me thank-you for your targeting of Handicapped Parking Cheaters. What many people fail to realize is the reason for the extra space alongside Handicapped Spaces. That open area is NEEDED by those using mobility aids: walkers, wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and so forth; so that person can safely exit or enter the vehicle. I've lost track of the number of times my husband & I've returned to our car only to find some moron has parked blocking access. Thankfully we've only had to call the police once to get the vehicle towed (so far!). Most of the time hubby has been able to get our car out of the parking spot. It is still a huge inconvenience not just to us but to other drivers as we're forced to block traffic. (I need assistance getting into the car and then the hoist has to be deployed to pick up the cart.) Needless to say, THAT doesn't make other drivers happy but there isn't much we can do. I'd appreciate your helping to increase awareness on this!

Disable parking is to make things easier for a disabled person, when an ignorant person parks there and they have no need it just makes life that much harder for a disabled person. I’ve been medically retired for 8 years and whilst some people look at me most shy away when they see my wheelchair come out the car. As a disability advocate I am humbled by your passion to correct bad drivers who park in spots for disabled persons. Trust me having a special Parking spot is not something we get excited about, it’s there to make life bearable and so that we are not hindered by what life throws our way! Thank you for all that you do, I know that it’s a job but you do it with dignity and kindness which makes what you do right! Proper job as we say in Cornwall!
