The good news is that it is never to late to get started. It is a fun hobby with a lot of different areas of interest. The barrier to entry has been dropped significantly with the proliferation of the low cost Baofeng UV-5R 2m/70cm handheld radios amzn.to/3TgYNo4. A good start is to find a local radio club. They always have members that were once in your shoes and are willing to help newcomers out. If you are in the US or Canada, you can find a local club at www.arrl.org/find-a-club
