Rather than using cables , you could also use a XT90 female connector sunk in the resin , that way you can just terminate what ever you want to power with a male one .

Very nice. Lots of work though. I did mine with a "moldable plastic Thermoplastic beads", using press and seal or saran wrap to cover the battery. Then, just like molding a putty, you press it to all the necessry areas like the slide and lock. When it is almost cured but still workable (slightly white, I slide it off the battery (a few times) and use scripto knife on the terminal holes to finish the slot all the way through. I dont even need to make holes on the battery lock (It locks in place). Fits like a globe. You can use a thicker material like aluminum foil to wrap the battery If you like it a little bit loose. Without the terminals, I would say look me less than 3 minutes.

I have a need for someone to do a small 3D printing project for me because I do not have a printer. When I stumbled across your video with this content it will solve my problem. It is for the same project you did. I built a portable bench top power supply. However the portable part right now isn’t so portable. I have it temporarily set up with an old laptop power supply. This requires a 110v outlet nearby to power it. That won’t be an issue IF there is an outlet nearby. But you never know when or where you will need this tool. So I want to make it using my old style Snap on 18v battery. I had a couple go bad on me so I upgraded to lithium ion batteries. These are afternoon batteries to replace my old bad ones so they are brand new. I don’t want to purchase some new battery type just to have a battery to power my power supply. I want to use what I already have. And they are new to boot. I figured I was all set… Except I can’t find ANYONE that makes the 3D printed part so I can connect my old style Snap on battery to it. There are all sorts of adapters out there even for my old style snap on battery. However I need printed is the tool side so the battery can connect to it. No one makes that so I believe this will solve that. Where did you get your supplies from? Like a Hobby Lobby type place? Daryl

well... plastic is better, but to make a plastic adapter You will need 3d printer or injection molding machine more expensive. My concept was to make a solid adapter without a 3D printer. Also with my method using a silicone mold, U can make more than one adapter and every single one will be the same. It is reusable, and the surface is perfect. Still can use different materials but I stay with mine. :) Regards manaloneathome

Given the cost of 3D printers, this is going to appeal more to the average guy. What did you use to make the mould? It looks like silicone, or perhaps polyurethane, rubber, but how did you get such a faithful replica of the battery, without the mould material contaminating the battery itself, or even making the mould impossible to remove from the battery. You could hardly soak the battery in release wax, like a conventional plug mould, so I’d love to see how you achieved that.

Yep. Found them, thanks. Mental block wouldn’t allow me to consider the power tool as a plug mould. I was imagining an extra step, taking a mould off the battery, first. This is primarily of interest to me, because I have a plethora of good quality professional tools, from both De Walt and Makita, for which batteries are either no longer available, or are prohibitively expensive. I’ve bought PARKSIDE, or PowerCraft replacement tools which have a much superior battery platform and batteries are cheap (relatively!), but the tools are a bit diy. If I can adapt my pro tools to the cheap modern batteries, I’ll be on the pigs back.

Thank You Jim, well... X20VTeam - an extremely cheap battery from Lidl around £16 with a charger. I love old power tools they are still good, but most people buy New, and those land on the scrap. Prefer Life with no waste, so I try to give them a second life. Also, we can use those batteries for lots of different projects. My concept was to make a solid adapter without a 3D printer. Also with my method using a silicone mold, U can make more than one adapter and every single one will be the same. It is reusable, and the surface is perfect. Regards manaloneathome

@@tomwyrick2824 No problem Tom, I have never seen this brand before, so I am not sure what is inside. Some power tools like DeWalt have an internal processor which communicates with the battery. With old tools, X20V Team works prefect with newish need some hacks ;) connect pins + to + / - to - from the battery to drill, and if this is running think about the adapter. Regards

This battery has no any safety features itself. Safe charge or discharge is provided by communication between battery and tool or battery and charger of X20V system. This communication tells the tool or charger to stop when any of the cell's voltage goes out of the allowed range. Using them as powerbank or with a non-X20V charger is dangerous! This can damage the battery or set it on fire! Of course, the battery could be disassembled, and necessary BMS (Battery Management System) PCB installed inside. This PCB has cell voltage monitoring circuit and power switch to cut-off charger or load for safety.

1. This is a universal adapter, to connect to the battery 2. Who says to connect to the power tools? You can use it for anything You want, but first You need a connection to the battery pins. 3. To understand the point, You should watch other videos for example this one ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5m3omdngrmimLc ) 4. This epoxy resin Project is an alternative to 3D Printer 5. List of materials? In the description, You can find Types of epoxy and silicone for the rest of the things have to watch other videos... 6. Where to buy them from? No one sponsoring those materials, so Why I should place links for specific shops? Hope You see my point...

@@makeandfixathome it looks like a battery cover to me, not an adapter. how about just sticking two wires in the slots and wrap them in tape? All I'm saying is, this concept had potential, but it needs to allow me to mount a different kind of tool on to a parkside battery. That's what I thought of when I read the title. Anyway, the epoxy casting process is cool if more clearly explained. 👍
