I don't know if MacMillan was this much of a weasel in real life, but season 2 does a great job at showing him to be an incredible weasel.

British politics is full of House of Cards style backstabbing. Back then and even today.

He was probably Britain's most formidable post-war PM until the late 70's

@@Balt21Raven OH no he was the most formidable PM since Attlee. There's not really anyone who could stand up to him. Certainly not Thatcher or Blair, who's cuts and austerity politics have harmed Britain for generations to come.

@@danielpierik6631 Both things can be true. Macmillan was a formidable weasel. And there's little doubt that Macmillan enjoyed Eden's downfall and would have done so even if it hadn't so directly benefited him.

It’s ironic that Eden was so hurt that Macmillan was trying to usurp power from him, when it was Eden himself who was repeatedly plotting against Churchill before.

And Macmillan's act were perfectly identical to Churchill as he against Chamberlin at the result of Norwegian campaign. Ah, Such an Art of political maneuvering :D

The subplot of PMs so beautifully put into perspective the theme that politicians come and go but the Queen is eternal.

None of them realised that Eisenhower wouldn’t support them in that adventure. When he didn’t, he set in train Eden’s departure and the rest is history. MacMillan was definitely Machiavellian, but politicians back then were more honourable than they are now. Plus it was Eden who cooked up the plans and then fibbed to Parliament.

It seems eden learned much from Churchill. When he got angry and stood up, he actually sounded exactly like Lithgow's performance of Winston.

British folks in shows always seem so cultured and genteel (even when arguing). When they yell or show strong emotion, it’s always kind of a shock. 😳
