What a breath of fresh air. Players getting up from big hits and dumps. No forwards going to the line and turning their backs. No clutching their necks. And no holding players down. Players playing footy. Men being men. Love it.

Sterling effectively spear tackled and driven head first into the turf -Rex - "Nothing wrong with the tackle"

Back then that was regarded as a good tackle

Little sterlo copping that throw down, what a champion! I thought it was a fierce game now, coming back to this I can barely watch with my eyes open far out!

Well Rex Mossop said about the Cumberland Stand being seen on TV 📺 for the last time in the Round 22 1981 match. Well a month later after Parramatta won their first NSWRL/NRL premiership, the Cumberland Stand was burned 🔥 down! Burn 🔥 baby burn!

Was Cumberland Oval going to be rebuilt before they burnt it down, or did they have to rebuild it because it was burnt down? I went to the club sevens tournament at Parramatta stadium in 1990, it was a large stadium with those big corkscrew ramps at each corner...was that built to replace the one that they burnt down? Or was that an entirely different venue?

This was the last game at Cumberland Oval before Parramatta fans burned it down to celebrate their first premiership that year.

I was at this game as an 11 year old, and now 52. 20 all draw, those where the days. Go MANLY.

Probably couldn't play like this in the modern game and win, but wow, I love how they threw the ball around back in those days. Better athletes and defence today, but very robotic. Thanks for uploading!

In 1986, five years exactly after this match in which the old Cumberland Oval grandstand was burnt down, the new Parramatta Stadium was opened by Queen Elizabeth 2, instead of normally the then Premier of NSW, Sir Neville Wran.

Look at all the players today too worried about their hair to learn how to tackle low!.

I was at this game I think. Did Artie Beetson play reserve grade that day?
@MERCURYSUNSET Жыл бұрын
Artie's last game with Parramatta was the 1980 Reserve Grand Final the previous year . Canterbury won the game 18-16.

Cumberland Oval was once a sacred Aboriginal burial ground. This is why so many disasters have happened for the Parramatta Eels and will continue to happen for all eternity.

You didn't want to be in the Cumberland Stand if you were for the opposition.

The last gsame at cumberland. What a dreadful ground it was..the worst of the worst.
@michaelandrews5832 жыл бұрын
Was it any worse than Nth Syd Oval, the old concrete park? Played on it as a junior in the early 1970's and getting tackled in centre field when the mud had dried was like falling on broken up bricks. Everyone had bark taken off.

@@michaelandrews583 the playing surface was definitely better than North Sydney. But everything else was easily worst in the league

@@glenchapman3899 So I have been told. Looks great now though, as does Nth Syd.

Sorry mate, I disagree. The ads make it better. The ads take you back to what it would be like watching the game in 1981. It gives a bit of an insight on what was going on at the time.
