another thing I'd recommend is that for strats involving cycles, if you don't want to go off visual clues but just go as soon as you enter the room, actually simulate entering the room in practice by always going into the room right before and back into the current room. This way you guarantee that you are not on the death cycle (the position everything starts at after you respawn) rather than in entry cycles (position everything starts at when you enter the room), which can often be different, so if you practice with death cycles and then have an entry cycle in the golden, your strat might not work at all. This is particularly important for chapters 3 and 8, but also applies to some farewell rooms. You can also use the re-entering rooms strat in actual goldens if you feel like you mistimed an input that would screw you up later to "reset" your cycles, starting the room over, or if you accidentally used a dash too early in Core and need it back. I'd also recommend making sure your strats with cycles are consistent by at least getting the room done 3 times in a row before adopting these strats. Another thing that can massively help consistency in rooms with narrow gaps to dash through is to use a demo (crouch dash) on them. This will, the majority of time, increase the time window you have to safely dash through by making your hitbox smaller for the dash. You can bind this in the keybind options on PC, and I'm not sure if they implemented this feature into console yet. Sorry for some of the not eloquent wording, I have an exam in 3 hours that I've been studying for the whole morning, and great video as always parrot!

I was thinking about making a video about tips for no death death runs in precision platformers in general for a long time now. This was a very interesting watch and you explain a lot of the strategies I have developed as well over the years (and even some more that I'll definitely adopt ^^). I think this video will be a great resource for any future players interested getting into challenge runs! Now, there is one important topic you don't talk about and that is nerve control. For me, getting a hold of my nerves during longer runs is usually one of the most challenging parts and it's something I'm only very slowly getting better at. A good balance between being in the flow and doing short "nerve breaks" does it for me, but realizing when exactly is a good time to stop and to take some deep breaths takes a lot of experience. I'd love to hear how you deal with it. ^^ Also, if you ever feel like doing a follow-up video, I think a collection video of small routing techniques would be great (especially for new players). I'm thinking about a list of very concrete examples of normalized movement, like dealing with cycles, using screen transitions to your advantage, aligning pixels for setup etc. Also also, best of luck with the platinum!
@ParrotDash Жыл бұрын
nerve control is a tough topic, i kinda only just earlier started thinking about that for this video but honestly i dont know how much i could have said about it, for me it has mostly just become something that has improved with more experience, there hasnt really been any trick for me to get better at it, sometimes i do really well at it sometimes horrible and i cant pinpoint exactly why, the best nerve control ive had was at times where what i was doing genuinely just didnt feel real so i just was deeply zoned out, it still just feels kinda random to me, small breaks also only ever make things worse for me as they can break the flow which is like the main thing keeping everything together also yeah thats a great concept for potential follow up video, going more in depth about strat finding would be really good

So after 4 weeks I was already able to get 12 goldens (1A-8A, 1B, 2B, 1C, 2C) and enjoyed every moment of it! Thanks a lot for the tips and the encouragement! I always felt like golden berries are way too difficult to get, since even though I can get though some relatively hard levels (like some advanced levels in the strawberry jam), I am not very consistent and tend to die a lot. 2B -> 3B seems like too big of a difficulty spike, so I will probably move on to collecting silver berries in the strawberry jam, which has a lot smoother difficulty curve.

@Bloody0range Жыл бұрын
@@Gabriel64468 By the way, you were absolutely right! This is really nice! I have a question tho: How do you practice for maps that are either extremely short and difficult (such as summit silver) or extremely long and easy (such as beginner 100% deathless)?
@ParrotDashКүн бұрын
honestly pretty much the exact same, for maps that are very short instead of going checkpoint by checkpoint you just go room by room, for challenges that are longer its still the same process it will just take longer, so for sj beginner probably map by map as if they were checkpoints

@ParrotDash Thanks! Another 2 questions (sorry) How do you route stuff where you can do things in different orders? Mostly depends on what you find fun, it's best to start with vanilla goldens unless you really don't want to. Note that the examples that parrot mentioned (7p golden, glyph etc) are all quite a lot harder than most vanilla goldens
@ParrotDash Жыл бұрын
id say start with them and do them for as long as you enjoy them, but if they start to get boring can always just take a break from them and do some modded goldens instead
@felixroux Жыл бұрын
You can probably get a good few vanilla goldens quite easily (1A, 2A, 1B, 2B and some C sides), which are quite a nice introduction. However, the vanilla ones have quite large difficulty gaps between some of them, so mods can bridge the gap quite well. Even if you don't feel like goldening any modded maps, they can still help in terms of getting better if you want to attempt vanilla ones.
@Bloody0range Жыл бұрын
