Great evaluation as usual. Funny, that as you describe the faults,can picture how you may resolve. This is the familiarity you portray with your excellent logic. Thanks again.

Still looking this one over. Ended up finding multiple escape wheel teeth that someone modified after this video was put up. Its looking like I may need to rebuild the escape wheel teeth. No luck finding replacement parts on this movement.

Very cool piece of history! I hope the owner goes for it on the restoration, definitely worth saving and you’re the right guy for the job. I personally would love to watch you make it run the way it was designed to.

Thanks Sam, Several butchered areas in this one, it being rare presents specific challenges in itself, no examples out there to use as reference. It was given up on by the last person due to not knowing what was butchered by the previous guy and no replacement parts or repair information available. It will end up being a nice running movement once done.

👍 Your careful and insightful inspection revealed some of the major challenges to this movement. The close up and slow motion photography made it clear that the movement has been abused. . . . Very rare clock. I believe the same company also made a bomb detonator timer during ww2.
@jamesmartin53702 жыл бұрын
Yes I have heard of that, seems the company made various mechanical and electrical items to generate income, seems they built a lot of their business fabricating water meters, makes sense, early water meters had brass gears same as a clock.

Last time that was serviced was in 2016, should still be running. Netusil Jewelers appears to have close down and moved to Wilkes-Barre, PA and goes by "Long Island Clocks" now. Probably because of a poor reputation. I did some digging in his first name is Andrew. His work isn't the worst I've seen you fix but again appears to be another person running his entire business out of an ultrasonic cleaner. I read some of his reviews too. . . . The critical ones are very specific (like him losing parts and calming that's how he got it ) and the good ones are very vague.

Good information. Glad I was able to reverse a few items that had been done to it and get to run again.

@@jamesmartin5370 I am a dabbling horologist with 7 time/strike clocks and 3-400 day clocks running well. I buy non-running clocks on ebay and love to make them keep time. I own a WW lathe and a winder. You are the only clockmaker I have found that impresses me every time.
@jamesmartin53702 жыл бұрын
@@kikaree Thanks Roy, Glad to hear you are able to bring them back to working order again. Will get this one to keep time again. But its going to take a lot of sorting and un-doing what the butcher did for that to happen.

Fixing the escapement looks to be extremely challenging. I've seen some Tommy Jobson videos where he fabricates a new escape wheel, but he has some very elaborate and expensive machinery. Or is there some way of adjusting the pallets to make them project a little further down into the escape wheel? I like the care you use in disassembly, e.g. using wood to pry the bezel off.
@jamesmartin53702 жыл бұрын
This movement has and adjustable pallet. Adjusted it down a little lower to the escape wheel teeth, but before they reach the locking surface they end up not having enough room to move past the pallets. I'll need to study it a little more. I am thinking now, either the escape wheel teeth have been shortened or the impulse surface on the pallets have been changed. The different hairspring installed bothers me as well, that could end up being another issue to deal with altogether.

👍 Hi, can you compare this clock with the ship's clock Vostok (video 63)?
@jamesmartin53702 жыл бұрын
I don't have the Aitiokeidenke up and running yet, escapement type is completely different from the Vostok and it has no Geneva stop mechanism. The Vostok is a newer movement type with improvements to the design and materials, its capable of keeping better time than the Aitiokeidenki if set up correctly.

I'll be very interested in the repair of this escapement if you go ahead with it. Not an easy one.....
@jamesmartin53702 жыл бұрын
This one will be repaired, it will take some time to sort out exactly what was modified on it. One concern is from what can be seen, all quality of work done on this is poor. Can only assume then, that the pivot holes may have been mis-aligned when the bushings were installed.
