This basic arm bar setup is a time-tested, solid method, and serves as the first part of a sequence I’ll be posting. It’s all about chaining submissions and moving from one to the next, so we will start here. Parts 2 and 3 coming soon on these short videos.

Freshly minted purple belt here, and this is what I don't get. Everybody makes arm control look SO danged easy, but for the LIFE of me I CANNOT hang on to an arm to save my LIFE without somebody posting up, yanking it out, etc. Is it just me? I have a long spine and short limbs, so I get that I'm not a natural closed guard player. But, UGH...
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not that easy and straightforward. What gets left out in the demo visuals a lot of time are the off balances and push/pull reactions. That’s how you really control a limb, is by forking them into giving you control over it.

@@KnightJiuJitsu Appreciate it, Coach. I think I've started to run into that spot where I'm having to start making real adjustments based on body type, and I'm not sure how to do that yet. I figure I'll probably have to schedule to time with my Professor for some fine-tuning. Keep up the good work, Sir!

This seems more steps than the other way where you just break the posture and go into it
@AdamJamesOfficial
@AdamJamesOfficial Жыл бұрын
That way is ineffective against an experienced opponent who will see it coming a mile away. Also the elbow tends to slip out when using that method so you lose the armbar

Why step into the hip? Such a useless novement, just bring both legs ovet the shoulders
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 6 ай бұрын
There are quite a few reasons you might want to step on the hip during a setup. Springing both legs up is sometimes the better answer, and sometimes not. Things like energy, posture, size, etc., can change what the best way to approach a technique setup is. It’s not smart to completely dismiss something just because you heard a different way is “better” without understanding other situations that may require different approaches.

Also helps you raise your hips high to collect the shoulder to break their posture.
