This picture is looking amazing! I love how smooth and blended the colours are. I have the 120 set of polys and I've been really intimidated to start in any of my new books with them yet as i have no idea what i'm doing so i've been watching a bunch of videos to get more info and confidence of the best tips and tricks. Thank you so much Erin you've helped a lot.

Hi Erin, First, let me say that I think you are an excellent colorist...I've learned a lot watching and practicing under your tutelage. I started following you last summer. I got this coloring book (that I love), and all of the supplies to work right along with you. I've had Polychromos for years and simply have not used them until I found your video. This is such a relaxing way to enjoy coloring. One comment, I got the app on my old phone (I paid for it) and now I have a new phone. I have to check to see if the developer allows you to redownload it once you already paid for it or if I have to purchase it again. Anyway, thanks so much for all of your tips. Before discovering you, I had no idea coloring could be so methodical and precise. I really enjoy watching you color and coloring along with you. Your voice is so calming and relaxing, it's like enjoying a cup of coffee with a friend. You give such good tips, and I don't think you need to apologize for anything (as you did in the opening)...those of us who are with you are with you. Thanks so much. Cynthia

I love the care you take with your shading and blending, and that you take your time! On another site I won't name, edges and points and bases of everything get colored, and the the colorist goes crazy with the colorless blender and fills in/spreads out the colors and dang, it looks false, shiny, overly waxy and too muted in that it lacks texture. You do REAL shading and blending and then spread it around carefully where needed - I love that! This sounds like a love fest but, I do love learning with you - you are relaxed, you think out loud just like most of us would, and then we arrive at a really fun piece of art - and that is what it is all about! So yes, I love your techniques, tips, tricks and honesty. Thanks oodles! I'm glad I found you Erin!

This was a super session. I learned a lot - you give very thorough explanations. I bought the color picker app, I’ve collected many Pinterest palettes - now to put them to good use. I have the Easter 🐣 book, so not the exact picture, but the paper seems to be consistent. I’ve only recently gotten my Polychromos pencils - a wonderful gift🎁 from my ever loving hubby. I now have a much better understanding on how to achieve the results that have eluded me so far. I really hope you will continue with this tutorial, and that more will be produced in the future. You are very organized - and I like the idea of keeping notes about the supplies you’ve used for future reference.

Hi Kim! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! There is a learning curve when it comes to the Polychromos for sure, but it's so worth taking the time to just slow down and enjoy it. I also like Prismas in this paper and I use them all the time. You just have to use them a little differently than you would on higher quality paper. Thanks so much for your kind words!

You kill it girl!!! I love your videos!!! Keep on the great work! Love how you come across with your answers. But, it would shock me if you didn't do such a kick butt job. I like the Rocket pad. And I totally love love love your NEW DESK and work space.... I envy you but I ordered a hospital table to let color while I'm jammed in the bed or can roll it to living room for tv night on the big screen... I have my desk area in the den but when I'm stuck in bed this new gadget is great. Thinking of adding some storage bins on it to give. Love the tip on the new app for the color combos. Do you know you are so polite on here, always apologizing for your neighbors or fireworks. Chill girl. But you can't mess up to me. I think of coloring the same as you. It's therapeutic and pleasure for me... PTSD & major Depression plus severe arthritis kinda kicks my butt. Thank goodness I don't still kids at home. But my Grandkids nearly live here. I am sitting here and thinking you are going for a 3D look and you said it! My sister is the talent in the family so she taught me the dimension stuff years ago and now I'm getting the next level of knowledge about what she gave me the basics. Oddly though I hear alot about "flat colorers" and think no... cuz she taught me how to use the grays and depth. Like using the right pressure with one color can often give me the depth I need to create curves shadows and from you I learned how to create the highlights that o didn't know before. I can't wait to get a set of polychromos. Odd but the color names seem familiar and I just clicked that the Delta Acrylics are pretty close to what I'm seeing here. Crazy rite? Yeah I have been at this painting & coloring thing a minute or ten... Love your videos...quickly becoming my favs... Hey! Have a great day! ~~Bobbi

This video is very helpful. Thanks Erin. Sometimes I get a wee bit impatient and frustrated because I am of the "instant gratification," generation, but I have to keep reminding myself that slow & steady wins the race and beautiful creations take time. Besides, coloring should be relaxing and it's not if we put performance pressure on ourselves. It's a much nicer experience when we take time to just enjoy both the process and the progress. Thanks again for another great video! *cheers*
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
I think we all get frustrated and impatient sometimes. We get an idea in our heads of how we want something to look, and we focus more on that than on the actual process of getting there. Patience in art and coloring is a learned skill! I certainly didn't have any when I started, but I'm learning. I'm glad you found the video helpful, and thank you SO much for your kind words .

I agree with all of your coloring techniques. I do most of the same things. Your not alone.... LOL ! Drawing and coloring for stress relief and chronic pain relief has become a positive obsession. I cannot believe the amount of supplies I have, and a lot of the tools I have made myself or from watching channels. The dollar stores are great for finding little treasures of tools or supplies for making tools. Being open minded is a definite must when having this hobby. Like the Information technology world out there, there is always something to learn with this hobby. I do respect the fact that people can make a living as an artist selling their work.
@SimpleArtforAdults5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! And I've found that for many colorists and artists alike, part of the hobby is in the collecting. My art supplies are my most treasured personal possessions forsure! !

Loved this! You are so honest and try to help those, like me, that can’t afford every book. We all don’t have the same pencils. I have found out that Prismas work on the same paper if I just take my time then blend. ❤️
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue! Oh, absolutely! It's important to remember that I don't have every book either, and I don't have the means to go and buy every book someone asks me to color in. There is just no way to pick books and supplies that everyone has, but at the same time, I don't want anyone to feel left out or excluded. Prismas are also nice on this paper if you go lightly! I personally just like the way the Polychromos feel when I'm working in one of these books. To each his or her own - and there's nothing at all wrong with that! Thank you for watching & taking the time to leave a comment.

Loved your video. I’m working on Book 4 with Prismas but your tips were excellent. The first picture I did was not great as I filled my “containers “ way to fast as I tend to be a bit heavy handed! Your advice is great especially using the palettes and the app 👍😊
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Janet!!! Yes, I think that's a very common thing for us to do as colorists! When I started coloring, I was incredibly heavy-handed. I'd tell myself to use less pressure, but then five minutes later I was back to digging in with my pencils. It just takes time and patience with yourself to break that habit, but it's possible, and when you do, it makes a world of difference. Thank you so very much for watching, and I'm glad you're finding the palettes and the app useful!

Hi, I just discovered you and I'm new to the adult coloring craze. Your set up process looks very interesting because I ALWAYS have the hardest time choosing colors, lol. But I'm a little confused with Pinterest, which I haven't used, and the app. It would be sooooo helpful if you'd do a video for us newbies on the process in detail or point me to a video that does. I REALLY like that you did a color along and shared which colors you used, Thank you❤
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
Hi Felicia! How can I help when it comes to Pinterest? You can think of it like a series of corkboards. You just browse the topics you like, and when you see an image you want to save for later, you "Pin" it. You can create your own "boards" (which are like folders) to categorize things, too. If you have a Pinterest account and you visit the Simple Art for Adults boards, you can follow individual boards so they show up in your feed, or you can re-pin anything you see to your own boards for future reference. What I showed on the video is pretty much how the Color Picker for Artists app works, and you can use it with ANY photo - not just Pinterest. This is awesome because if you see a flower outside, you can take a picture, then upload it into the app and figure out which colored pencils will help you recreate the right colors! It's easy to use, but it's not always 100% accurate, so be sure that you take the time to test and swatch the colors it recommends.

I like the idea of keeping track of what pencil you use for a particular thing in a given picture. I have one picture that I did not, and now I cannot make correction to the colors or I cannot reproduce the picture.

Hi Kati! I don't think people do it to be mean or selfish or anything like that. I think that unless they've really taken the time to try to put things like this together, they don't understand the work that goes into it. I've overworked myself in the past and I ended up just feeling burnt out. I had no desire to color or make videos. These days, I try to be pretty upfront and honest, and I won't overwork myself anymore. :) There are so many good resources out there that I feel like I don't NEED to cover every single little thing, and I have no problem directing people to another video or site if that will help them.

And i was always afraid of using my colorless blender, thinking it would take away the vibrancy of the color, but i see here, it doesn't look like it does that!! Anyway thanks for the tip!!
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
You're too sweet! Thank you! As far as dulling the colors... nope! It'll actually make the colors look brighter, but only if you make certain you have enough layers down on the paper and you're careful to avoid going over the line art with the blender. If you don't have enough pigment, it will look dull, and if you go over the line art, the ink can smudge. ;)

Good video Erin, I enjoyed your thoughts on the subject. I ended up wondering if I would be happier with books with a toothier paper, since I mainly seem to be using Derwent Procolour pencils. I first tried them out in Mythomorphia and I have to admit to being disappointed with how smooth the paper was! I didn't get the lay down I was hoping for. There are work-arounds for the issue, a thin layer of gesso did wonders!
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad! I've tried gesso but it's made my paper pretty sandy, and that tends to make a mess lol. Maybe I just need a different brand.
@699jude6 жыл бұрын
I use Finnabair Art Basics Clear Gesso amzn.to/2uxTIxK a tip I learned from The Art Spirits, the finish is a lot less gritty than other gessos. I use it diluted 1:1 with water and it provides just enough tooth for harder pencils, it is also strong enough at this dilution to prevent bleed through of most water based pens, although it needs full strength for alcohol based markers.

I don't have the Irojiten pencils yet, but I'd like to get them someday. My heart is set on the Pablos, and I've been trying my best to save for them, but something always happens lol. I have a set of Pablos and I would definitely take them over the Tombow pencils. They are harder than the Polys but they are very pigmented and they layer really nicely. Where do you get the paper you use to put your arm on?
@SimpleArtforAdults6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cuppy! It's actually really easy to make your own! Just take a piece of see-through tracing paper, wax paper, or parchment paper, fold it in half, and then put some Washi tape around the edges. I found that just using a sheet of paper will work, but over time, the edges tend to curl up, and then it ends up catching inside my book. When I do it this way, it's easier for me to slide it around to where I need it! Best part? I can use it over and over again, and when it gets too dirty, I can just throw it out and make another one!

This is not KZbin related but trying to spread the word. Kelly O’Gorman is doing a kickstarted for her new book. Could you maybe post it on your fb page?

I haven't seen it yet, Linda! I think I have it set up where you can share links in the comments. Would you mind sharing one with me so I can look? I usually have no problems whatsoever with getting word out for folks, but I'd like to check it out beforehand. Thank you so much for mentioning it!
Omg. I absolutely love venom energy drinks. They've become harder to find in my area 😢

Hello Necee! Aren't they amazing? I can't STAND Monster or Red Bull. I can tolerate a NOS (grape is my favorite), but I just like these better. It also helps that they're $1 each as opposed to $3 or $4. Have you tried Amazon? I order my Grippos BBQ potato chips through Amazon lol.

Me watching this: Gee, I can't even imagine being that anal retentive about finding a "color palette" for coloring a picture. Also me: Literally refining a mandala pixel by pixel in Paint to get the mandala I want to color later. ;-D

Hello Erin, I politely translated the message I sent to Gaëlle. Pfft not simple English - French translations ... Thank you Gaëlle. The link works and I was able to download the app. But I have the same problem as Laurie. I can not transfer an image from Pinterest to this app. I watch Erin's video in slow motion, I can not do it. In addition as it annoys me I touched a little to all the buttons, which is strongly discouraged ... Maybe you or Laurie can help me. Then at your level, this app is also in English or do you have it in French? Thanks for your help.

Merci beaucoup Laurie. Ca y est ça fonctionne. Cette appli est super pour le choix des couleurs car pour un coloriage ce n'est pas toujours le plus simple à définir.Et encore merci à Erin pour ce partage.
