Part 1 - Converting Champion Generator to Natural Gas or Propane NG LP

*Great **Generater.Systems** . Our 1st 2500W Champion backed us up with hurricane Ida last August when our whole home generator crapped out after 8 days. Love the dual fuel. Hope to never run gasoline in it.Bought this 2500W to parallel with our other one for the RV.*

What you need to know... On this engine the spacing between the stud holes are about 42 mm to order the correct carburator look for one for a Chinese engine 160f or 170f On the larger engines the spacing is 52 mm look for 180f or 190f. That fitting is glued into the regulator with something like lock tight. If you heat it a little it might come out easier. Be careful that you don't overheat the regulator.

Hey Rogue, you seem knowledgeable, any advice on converting a Champion 2Kw inverter generator. Actually, it is a Karnaf - the same as a champion I'm told, sold here in Israel under the name Karnaf (model CPI2300).

IM in lousiana. ive lost all my food and thier isnt any gas anywhere. Not sure how this covid thing is gonna go on. but I ordered a champion generator and im hoping to have gas. when i get paid next week im going to buy this. Thankyou in tears. I appreciate your help you have no idea the soudn of relief that i just gasped. I was not sure 0what we were gonna do for food ive never been one to do "foodstamps" but when your kid says im hungry dad. and sweats been pouring down your face for days you almost want to break the law and go hunting anyway. allt he markets have ran out of food and shipents are coming in we all know their not gonna run out . permently its just empty one day full the next.. etc.. over and over. Other states... they will ship in unless shtf all at once in all states it will be fine. but you guys have no idea. i laughed at "preppers' never again. I have money but if thiers nothign to buy what do you do? Im a 34 year old male and you can bet your ass im leranign to "can food" i now know whjy old timers did what they did. and why everyones grandma asks if you ahve any food etc to all the grandkids fuck this idea it cant happen its fuckign happenign. go out and buy 12 cans a food every few days we have no idea where this stuff is going. thigns are escaliting do to covid and im a die hard republican but ill vote biden if it means some kind of stimlulus now. fuck this idea that our grand kids have to pay for it etc and thats why republicans aretn budigin.. we are the grandkids ... that have to pay it back and now we cant afford too.. this idea that its gonna be generations from now and they wont be able to afford mentality.if we dont take out the laons. shoudl hav ehappend 50 years ago not now!!! on one hand some have money and thiers no food and the stimulus will propogate this... but in relaity.. people need the money to buy generators and they need to ship in more gas and food and business need stimulus to do that. .

@@ShutterFanatic, I ask because I have heard reports of valve recession. This is due to gases burning hotter than gasoline and not providing the cooling, as well as lubrication gasoline does. I would very much like to get some feedback from those who have run generators or other devices that they themselves have converted, or had converted to natural gas or propane, if they have had this problem. Also, in general, how has the wear and tear been on their equipment after hopefully several years of use. Thanks again.

I bought one & installed it works a one on GAS but won't run on Propane Champion 3550w we tried everything.

A lot of grill tang regulators have a lock out function if you turn the tank on too quickly. Unhook your grill tank regulator to reset and open tank valve very slowly like 1/4 turn then verify that you have propane running to generator regulator by depressing bleeder. If you use a turkey fryer style tank regulator where you set pressure you won't have this issue.

I haven't but yes, its try fuel meaning that you can run gas, propane, or NG

Do you know what size the barb is that comes with the Unit? I know you said the elbow size is 1/4 thread, is the barb also 1/4" barb?

Apparently on my trifuel carb kit it appears the thread design is metric and 12 mm so different than what you describe

You may need a larger one. I recommend you try to find out what Honda clone they used for your unit and do a search on Amazon. You should be able to return if it doesn’t work.

The carb or generator? I know some cars have them but usually don’t see on small engines. May be a ca only thing since they have more regulations and do see ca compliant on some of them.

@@ShutterFanatic EVAP canister: on generator has a line from top of tank into canister beneath the carb its meant for gas fume from canister another line goes into air filter box with. Hence EVAP canister I deleted it off mine using yours design to do so lol since it's same engine just with extra EPA bs lol

I believe it’s pressure/flow rate. LP is high pressure and NG is very low.

@@ShutterFanatic That's backwards. LP stands for LOW PRESSURE. Natural Gas is a lot higher pressure.

@@walterking5210 LP stands for Liquified Petroleum, aka Propane, which typically operates at a higher pressure of 10-11"WC than natural gas, which is about 8"WC

That is why you need a NG converter. It’s also a much lower pressure. Note that it has less BTU so you get less watts as well.
