The ending of the Desert is so heartbreaking. It’s easy to forget that Aang is just a 12 year old kid, not to mention a survivor of genocide. He got so wrapped up with his new mission and embracing his role as the avatar that he never really faced the trauma of losing his people, but losing Appa forced all of those feelings to the surface. I don’t think I would handle it any better than he did.

Katara’s emotional IQ is through the roof! That moment of her seeing right past Aang’s rage to the hurt underneath is absolutely beautiful. She wasn’t a bit concerned with her own safety (even though Aang was genuinely terrifying!), she only cared about her friend and how she could help save him from himself ❤ So tender 😢

Remember how Aang was devastated when he discovered his mentor’s remains? Appa and Momo are Aang’s only LIVING connections to his people. With Appa taken, that’s emotionally devastating in a HUGE way. Don’t think he meant to go into the avatar state; he was so upset that his emotions triggered it. Tell me you felt the blood in your veins freeze or that your skin was crawling when Aang shouted “TELL ME WHERE APPA IS!!”

Iroh describing the water tribe was true to the point. "Water is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribes are capable of adapting to many things. They have a sense of community and love that holds them together through anything." Kartara was the mvp of this episode Soka and momo were high of cactus juice. Toph cant see due to sand. Aang in total depression mode

Aang’s absolutely devastated coz Appa is his only last family in the world. His nation was wiped out inculding bisons. Imagine one of the previous avatar before him was cruel, the enemy killed the animal partner, with no hesitation that avatar killed them brutally including a mother and child. Also, that avatar was a airbender too. Airbender are extremely religious. So sandbenders are too lucky that time coz it’s aang

Do try to remember that Appa is all Aang really has that connects him to his home. I mean Momo LIVED at the air temple, but Appa is the only one who was with Aang before he was frozen. Not to mention that the bond between an Airbender and a Sky Bison is already incredibly intimate. You might say they're "soul partners" of a sort. It makes absolute sense that Aang is so devastated by it. Its also easy to forget sometimes that he IS still a child. Tbh i think it would be more troubling if he DIDNT lash out in this state of mind.

Given that Appa is literally all that Aang has left of the Air Nomads (Momo aside), it's no wonder that everything he's bottled up would finally come to the surface in such a way The way that the extra voices pile onto his with that "tell me where Appa is," I've always felt like his past lives are egging him on, reinforcing his hate in that moment, letting him be mad And you feel it, the rage and the pain, you FEEL it

Earth bending isn't that specific that the sea is prohibited - otherwise she wouldn't be able to make any platform at all. And as agreed she bends earth from below water in other episodes.
