You may want to see the original 'Thing from Another World' from a short story 'Who Goes There?' Its a classic and very original for the time 1950's. Still one of my all time favorites. The first movie that had the actors talking over each other. Another one is the original 'Day the Earth Stood Still' and 'Forbidden Planet! Still great movies and started SciFi movies.

Also... When this was released in theaters, it was so realistic in the opening battle scene a number of WW2 vets had to get up and leave. Many that were there at D-Day said it took them right back and that they could even smell the diesel from the landing craft

You can tell by his wife's reaction at the end that he never never spoke of his experience in war... He never told this story. His wife read Capt. Miller's headstone with zero emotional connection. She had no idea who it was or anything about what had happened to her husband during the war.

This was a pretty big movie at the time. It's my my husband's favorite of all time. I love it too. Practical effects are beyond awsome!! ❤ listen for Windows dropping the keys when Bennings is turning.

They had to do their best to keep a male to carry on the family name. The military wasn't allowed to leave a family without a male heir to carry on the family name. I think it was added to the military code of conduct after the civil war and so many families last all their boys.

What a great reaction. This is such a powerful movie. You guys should check out "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson when you recover from this one. It's a true story from Vietnam from the book "We Were Soldiers Once... And Young" by Hal Moore and Joe Galloway. It's another phenomenal movie

In the novelization of the film, the reason the alien did not see Jones as a threat or try to kill him is because it saw Jones as a worthy creature like him. A hunter as it were. That's the reason it didn't kill Jonesy. Besides, how could anyone do that to a sweet kitty?

Not the original but my favourite of the 3, This one is a remake of the 1951 version and the 2011 version is the prequel.

The solution to who the Thing is inside at the film's end is tied to who has breath and who doesn't. If you look at Childs he has no breath, MacReady has breath. Also, he filled the bottle with gasoline. Childs drank it and we won't see what happened since the film ended in a cliffhanger.

Guys great reaction you need to do the PREQUEL, THE THING 2011 it’s centred round the norweigens and what happened to them and the camp before it got to the Americans basecamp its a good prequel a lot of people didn’t like the effects in the prequel as it’s mostly CGI in this film the thing 1982 the effects were practical robotics and stuff all done by rob bottin but other than that the prequels really good

What the Norwegian says is:"Get away from it. It's not a dog. It's a Thing." It's very likely that the Norwegian DID hit the dog. Bullets would have very little effect on a shape-shifter. Before he dies, Fuchs finds a shredded shirt with MacReady's name on it. Later, Nails finds a second shirt with MacReady's name. Either Mac was infected TWICE, or the Thing was attempting to frame him. Despite what Childs says, Mac shot Clarke in selr-defense. During the autopsy, Blair pokes at the 'corpse' with his pencil. He then taps the end of the pencil on his lips. He must have been infected before he sabotaged the helicopter, because he had to keep big enough pieces to build his ship. While they're talking at the end, you can see Mac's breath, but not Childs'. John Carpenter had Kurt Russell smoke so as to accentuate his breathing, but not Childs.

6:13 ah look its Bilbo Baggins, a bit less that his eleventy first. 18:34 in a "behind the scenes" film, its said that only Kain (John Hurt) knew what was coming, the reactions were supposedly real. 42:20 The timeline is: ALIEN, ALIENS, ALIEN 3. Don't bother with alien 4 it's pure trash... the first 3 give you a good beginning middle and finale. 4 omg rubbish, its so awful. just a bunch of shit tossed together to cash in on the franchise name. Trust me, skip it. It's so bad It actually detracts from the franchise. And Prometheus (alien origin story) is also very bad. Watch 1, 2, & 3 then call it a day and you end up with a nice full story with all the answers you need.

Carpenter has confirmed that when Blair was destroying all the equipment, he was human. So at some point, probably prior to his saying he wants to come back inside, Thing Norris or Thing Palmer got to him. Wouldn't have been hard with him isolated out there. Poor Blair

I think the Alien does not attack Ripley at the end in the shuttle because it was wedged into the alcove where it was hiding , which is why she uses the steam to force it to come out , seminal great film easily one of Ridleys best , please check out Aliens next which is a change of genre being a more exciting action packed film where Alien is a great slow burn horror . Alien Romulus is set after Alien but before Aliens so in-between the two best entries in the franchise.

I just noticed the doctor (Wilford Brimley, RIP) was most likely the first to be infected among the group @ the 9:20 mark. He touches the Thing-corpse and gently touches his lip inquisitively. I should’ve known lol. Maybe a tiny bit of the Thing-cell slowly but surely infected him through the course of the film.

Nah. Overlooked error. Brimley touched it to his lip out of improvisation. Moreover, the first was Palmer. Then Norris. Bennings. Blair. Windows. Possibly Childs. The rest I think were flat out murdered.

The Budget at the time was $8 million by Alan Ladd and Fox Studios whom financed and promoted it at the time. Lucas really loved independence, but also understood he had to mingle with the thing he really hated. The irony is that bothe he and Spielberg became the verything they despised so many years prior.

This is at the end of world war two about a year before it all ends but you see a couple major operations in this movie. There really was a family . There's a general understanding in most military that if your the last surviving son and all you brothers were killed in combat youd be sent home.

That was Normandy landings and there was Nazi machine guns and mortar positions and this is regard by historical people as the most accurate. Many many veterans when asked what it was was like would tell people to watch this opening. Legends were made on this beach and that was a young Vin Diesel in one of his first roles.
