How to replace an igniter for a Kenmore Sears Oven Model number 790.7576893, Part1.
The Symptoms of our bad igniter:
At 250 degrees the burner would open the gas valve, but would not ignite the gas, we could smell gas. This was very dangerous. And we had to clear the oven. We realized we had a problem and started looking into fixing. Our plumber wanted $210 which included tax to travel to our house and replace the igniter. A new oven from Home Depot, on sale, was around $550, but the same plumber would have to convert to LP gas at a cost of $135 for just labor. This did not include the LP conversion Kit cost, which he said varied depending on the manufacturer of the new oven. So $210 for a plumber to fix or around $700 for a new LP gas oven. Or around $20 to $35 for a new igniter and I do the labor. I decided to buy an igniter and try to fix myself. Worst case, throw away new igniter and buy a new oven.
At 350 degrees the burner would open the gas valve and ignite the gas in 5-6 minutes and it took forever to Preheat the oven or cook something, because the igniter was not working properly.
My Sears Repair Parts List shows the Igniter to be part number 5303935066.
When I googled that number I got several hits. I bought one from eBay that cost $20.70 plus a small tax and shipping was free. It had lots of good reviews. The link to the Igniter I bought from eBay is: www.ebay.com/i...
Mine came with two Ceramic High temperature wire nuts, so I did not have to buy ceramic wire nuts. I looked on the following websites for our local, Home Depot, Lowes and Ace hardware for ceramic high temperature wire nuts and none of the local stores had them in stock. I finally found some on Amazon, but I did not need them since mine came with two ceramic wire nuts.
As you can see in Part 2 the igniter is working great for right now. Link to part 2 is: • Part 2, How to replace...
I hope it last many years. I bought the new igniter on the 24th around 10:30 PM and I received the igniter in the mail on the 27th around 1:30 pm. I had the new igniter installed and working along with taking some video by 3:00 PM. If I can do it anyone can. Just be sure to be safe. Unplug the stove so there is no electrical current anywhere and turn off the gas. Handle the new igniter and the gas burner with extreme care. Others said theirs was very fragile.
