When Graham Nash decided to leave The Hollies in late 1968, the group called upon an old friend to fill Nash's big shoes, Terry Sylvester then of The Swinging Blue Jeans and previously a member of The Escorts.
With Terry taking over from Nash as second lead vocalist and second guitarist, The Hollies moved into the most succesful phase of their career scoring mega-hits with "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" and "The Air That I Breathe".
Sylvester left The Hollies in 1981 but continues to perform featuring songs from all phases of his amazing career.
This exclusive interview with Keith Hampshire, formerly of Radio Caroline and a succesful recording artist in his own right, is a must see for all fans of the British Invasion and specifically of The Hollies.
The next installment of this interview will feature Terry discussing The Hollies in great detail.

The Hollies were certainly not underestimated by we young aspiring musicians, right from the start we were knocked out by them. Terry Sylvester was often overshadowed by Graham Nash, but he’s an amazing vocalist in his own right.

I had the pleasure of meeting him once at a music convention. His hearing was a bit worn by all those years of rock'n roll, but he was a lovely, kind, generous man.

Terry's CV is unbelievable...Growing up with the Beatles and their families Such an amazing, talented musical life. He was the best thing that happened to The Hollies after Graham left.

Speaking as a Brit, I think the influence of people like Elvis, Chuck Berry The Everly's & Buddy Holly etc. may have a lot to do with it.

It's funny how the dialects in the various parts of England are unique. If you listen to how Terry talks, you can hear the Liverpool accent...like the Beatles

I heard this song only once on the radio circa '74, but remembered it as "For The Sake Of Old Mankind". I tried to get hold of it years later without much success as I wasn't sure of the title and it never charted. Hope someone puts it up here as I've only ever heard it the once,.

What Terry didn't say (as he wasn't asked) were the other members of The Escorts...Peter Clarke on drums, Mike Gregory / Bass Guitar, and John Kinraid / Lead Guitar.

what? is that true? I will check it out. His solo on Gasoline Alley Bred is phenomenal. His voice was a better blend with the incomparable Alan Clarke than Nash's was.

you mean his solo singing right. I like Jesus Was a Crossmaker, I think it was the best solo vocal from Terry with The Hollies

...but he was such a drunken jerk when the Hollies were inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. YT it...made an absolute fool of himself and tarnished the evening for the rest of the lads. There was obviously a reason they didn't want him onstage with them, pushing him away when he 'gate crashed' the performance. Mind, this clip is good...somewhat redeeming, I guess.
