Are there more trains on the Sunset route or more trains on the Union Pacific / BNSF Joint Line in Colorado?
@trains5.9 Жыл бұрын
Definitely the Sunset Route! It stays really busy down there but the Joint Line has its days, as well. Lately, there have been quite a few trains over a 24 hour period here.
@5thman677 Жыл бұрын
@@trains5.9 I'm close to the Joint Line near Denver. I enjoy this route but the trains seem sporadic. How do you know when trains will be coming, do you use a radio? Thank you.
@trains5.9 Жыл бұрын
@@5thman677 you’re welcome! And yes, I use a Yaesu FT-25 scanner. It’s also a dual band scanner so you can enter channels into it that can monitor the EOT frequencies and let you know when a train is getting close. But being close to Denver, it tends to pick up lots of the yard channels as well!

What is the "incredible speed" approximately?
@trains5.9 Жыл бұрын
Should be about 70 mph, track speed for a good portion of that stretch of track
@BJHolloway1 Жыл бұрын
@@trains5.9 Thanks. A question do you ever watch train videos based on European trains. I ask because the track speed are very high in comparison. A good example would be a new range of electric locos being delivered to the UK for freight work. They envisage running at 100mph.
@trains5.9 Жыл бұрын
@@BJHolloway1 yes I have seen a few videos before! Those do move very fast, quite a bit over what US freights can do. Definitely highlights the differences!

You filmed some of this in Maricopa, AZ? I'd like to visit the area, looks like Maricopa, AZ is the place to see the Sunset Route.
@trains5.9 Жыл бұрын
Yes! There’s lots of shots from there. If you get a chance, you should try to get some action there one day. Definitely an awesome place! Also, further west near Gila Bend, Mohawk and Tacna is really scenic as well, if you like the desert!
@briangriffiths1285 Жыл бұрын
A great way to shift freight. I am amused by the US trains rated as fast, here in the UK the freight trains are running in between passenger traffic running at 125 mph so they have to get their skates on. Running speed is normally 75 mph and we even have parcel trains comprised of electric sets based on passenger trains running at 100mph. And taking a leaf out of North American railroads we are building longer and longer consists to shift stuff off the roads. Unlike the US and Canada freight runs under OLE and there is a push too extend the wires to ensure more move away from diesel to faster electric traction.
