Mera Peak is a popular trekking peak in the Everest region of the Himalayas of Nepal. At 6476M (21,247') it is classified as Nepal's highest trekking peak. Its summit rewards one of the best views in the Himalayas, where trekkers enjoy views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Kanchenjunga. Interestingly, it was first climbed in 1953 only days before the first successful summit of Mount Everest. While climbing Mera Peak requires limited technical ability, it should not be taken lightly, as it it still a mountain at extreme elevation. Altitude sickness, very cold weather, and wind pose the greatest challenges.

Deciding between trekking companies can be a daunting task, as many promise reduced rates, but sacrifice on quality. It is important to select a company licensed by the Nepal government. In 2021 and 2022 I chose Adventure High Mountain for the organization of my trips. They are mentioned in this video and you can visit their website by clicking here:

Music is an essential element in my videos, and because I have no budget to pay licensing fees I used these free tracks listed below.

Great video Scott. Brought back great memories of when my son and I did the same trek back in the spring of 2018. Congratulations on your trek.

Well Done Scott...I have been looking at Cotopaxi but looks like it may stay closed for the upcoming Climbing Season, so Mera Peak has my attention at this time. Beautiful Vlog and Congrats on your Summit. I did Aconcagua Dec 2022. Have you looked at that Climb?? I will enjoy following you Scott. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Park City.

Hello! Thanks for your comments. Yeah, Cotopaxi being an active volcano has been closed to climbing on more than one occasion. I was fortunate to summit Cotopaxi in December of 2020 in perfect conditions. If you still decide on Ecuador, Cayambe is another beautiful objects, as well as Chimborazo (although it has gotten more dangerous due to instable snow and rock). I have thought about Aconcagua many times, but its during our winter when I'm very busy as a ski instructor! So, I have yet to do it or commit to doing it. Stay tuned on my channel, as I will be putting out a new video on Alpamayo Sunday morning.

What a great video! Thanks for sharing your journey ! Loved how you congratulated all the Sherpas on the summit . On average , how heavy was your backpack and what kind of training did you do leading up to your expedition? Thanks again and we’ll done !

Sherpas deserve all the praise they receive and then some. They are people of extraordinary strength and resilience. They are the only reason these Himalayan peaks are accessible. With the porter help, I would carry around 30-40 lbs per day and not the amount I would carry if I were specifically backpacking. We went from one established camp to another, so a lot of camping gear and extra food was not necessary to bring. The best way to train is to walk and hike and come as close as you can to replicating the feeling of hiking up and downhill with added weight.
