This is part one of a two-part video series where I go through the process of removing the dashboard as well as the heater hose connections and the AC Evap core connections.
Part 2 will cover the heater and evap core installs as well as reinstalling the heater box and dashboard.
This video shows and describes the process I used to take out the dashboard. You may have done it differently and may have experienced things differently than I have. Leave some comments below so we can all learn about how other people have taken the heater core out.

great video... of note: you DO NOT have to remove the corner dash bezels on either side. two less things to do. the ratchet trick worked great as I had more than enough room to work.... took me about 7-8 hours total and nothing broke! (heater core, evaporator core, accumulator, compressor, and condenser) thanks for the upload

This 2 part video is AWESOME !!! Thanks for taking the time to make and post. I've been putting this off for over a year, couldn't bring myself to pay a shop to have it done. After watching these 2 videos I was a lot more confident in taking on this task. Many good tips and a little comedy too !! Just finished, all good, total of 8 hours. Thanks again !!!

I have a 92 and the heater core went out around Christmas in 2017 while visiting my dad in Chicago before he passed away. Took it to my aunts brother's shop and he did everything he could to try and get the great to work without doing this job because he said he hates doing it, it would take at least 2-3 his and around 5-12 hours depending on what happens after working on it ( one thing fixed can lead to another new problem ect ). I completely forgot about it because my dad passed away in March of 2018 a couple months later, rebuilt the entire underbody, and did a new head gasket, ujoints, tierods, struts, suspension, driveshaft gone through, bearings on everything, pretty much rebuilt the entire bottom half to OEM spec and forgot to do the heater core. Now it's 5 years later and I gotta get out up and running for winter, starts right up, runs like a beast, a/c works great, but no heat lol. So I'm going to have to learn how to do this because I'm no longer in Illinois with Mike Denton and my Uncle Chuck.

My 97 xj leaks from the hvac area. The only thing I can figure out is that the gaskets (padding material ) around the open vent areas are bad. My plan is to get a hvac system from the junk yard and replace each item. Unless you know where you can buy the hvac box that goes under the dash? Again great video.

I have a 2001 4.0 Grand Cherokee that will overheat when i drive it. It idles around 210 and won’t overheat but once i take it for a drive for around 20 minutes it will spike suddenly and have to turn the car off. It will spew out the radiator cap and the coolant reservoir will start bubbling. The head is brand new on it with no gasket leaks. I’ve replaced the thermostat, radiator, and heater core so far. Going to replace the water pump today but if it isn’t that what else would you think is wrong with the car? It runs perfectly fine other than the overheating issue.

hi how you doing , thankx for your video , im from Portugal and i have a question if you please can replay me , i did this job some weeks ago and after all together i had been here checking if its all good, well everithing seems fine but the temperature regulator is giving me what to think , i explain, whit my engine stoped i turn my key on and switch the temperature regulator and i can hear really the door in heater core box opening and closing , but then i start engine and check about hot and cold air and im not sure i can see temperature diference, its really hot in maxium and when i change to cold i really cant see a diference if i can get more cold air or not , maybe its because its a new heater core i dont know , or something is not work propeply here ....did you noticed anithing about after install your there? thankx a lot

Unfortunately yes, since the heater core and AC condenser is in the "heater box", you have to remove freon from AC system..so might as well replace that part too since you have it out.

Condensation could come through the vents of the temps and humidity were right. If caused by a heater core leak, it would smell like coolant.
