Best to use the correct cam pulley holding tool when loosening the cam gear bolt. Using a wrench to lock the cam runs the risk of breaking the cam.

Done hundreds of timing belt changes on vw Diesel engines over the past 15+ years, never had that issue. But thanks for your concern!

It’s actually not that bad, It was something like 3h with removing the trans & flywheel and a coffee of course
