This was a great four part series. Thanks for the time put in and for sharing your knowledge of the internal workings, especially the explanation of the metering block. Part of the magic of owning an older car is being able to understand and work on it yourself, thanks to the generosity of people like you who can explain how it's done. A good weekend coming up rebuilding the 2 barrel on my F100 after watching this. Much appreciated!

Very in depth discussion. If I were to criticize any part of the video, it would be that you talk a little fast. You know what you are explaining because you have years of experience working on carbs. Most people watching do not. Still, very thorough and informative.

Be careful when blowing the air bleeds from the backside. I blew one out and I spent an hour looking for it and found it under the front of my car. I reinstalled it by adding a bit of red loctite then, sliding the bleeder onto a packing slip wire then holding the bleeder I fed the wire into the hole then let go of the bleeder, lined it up, and tapped it in place using a brass punch larger in diameter than the bleeder until it was flush to the carb body. Use low air pressure here.

Yes it is always best to use low air pressure when cleaning or checking a circuit. Thanks john.

Anything to do with cars and racing, I guess I will die a gear head, I learned alot from the old timers . Take care my friend.

My buddy acquired a 1968 Corvette over the summer. It came from Arizona, I'm in Idaho (about 2000 ft higher in elevation), has a transplanted 427 from 1969, an electric fuel pump and a Holley (List# 4296) 4150 850cfm. The previous owner is no longer with us. He did some club racing, and as well it seems that he did some dyno tuning done because he had a car show placard with power numbers and the main jets on both sides are staggered. When my friend first took delivery late in the summer if ran ok. I drove it once a couple a of months after he got it. Lots of hesitation. Its down at the moment due to fuel fouled spark plugs. I had my buddy order a TricKit. The primary bowl was leaking and I wanted to be sure everything else with the carb was okay due to all the unknows. Now my question is should I mess with the jets with a 2000 ft elevation difference, possible race tune, and an unknow camshaft and valvetrain. I'm fairly certain it died due too running rich and fouled plugs. I'm new to carburetors but excited to dive in. Thanks!

Jeff sounds like it definitely needs a carb. Kit, if you have the jet numbers write me back and let know what they are and I'll try to get you close at your elevation. I know you got to be excited to drive around a 68 corvette with a 427, hey it don't get know better than that !!

Rex@@holleycarbshowtosadvice40y90 I don’t remember the source but I read somewhere that from the factory the main jets were staggered. Anywho, this is what I found and what I’m thinking. I’m at 2700 ft. Don’t go in the mountains often enough to worry ab out it but we’re looking at about 5000 ft. C is the choke side T for throttle Side Factory 78C/82T (Primary) 82C/80T (Secondary) Current 68C/72T (Primary) 76C/74T (Secondary) Possible Change 67C/71T (Primary) 75C/73T (Secondary)

It just occurred to me that you might need the power valve sizes. I was remembering the video where you were talking about going to larger main jets when blocking off power valves. Anywho, here they are: Primary 10.5 Secondary 6.5
@holleycarbshowtosadvice40y90
@holleycarbshowtosadvice40y90 Жыл бұрын
That carburetor did come stager jetted from the factory, I would drop down two jet sizes on each corner from the stock jetting and try that, usually 1 jet size smaller for 1700 to 2000 feet of elevation, run your primary power valve and you can run the secondary power too, or you can install a power valve block off plug and jet the secondaries up 8 sizes higher number,, it might be best to run the secondary power valve in this car.hope this helps

Your videos have been great. Clear and educational. I have a pair of 4150s on a sbc with a holly 250 blower. Iam going through them and noticed the secondary air bleeds in the center (high speed?) appear to be closed on both carburators. These 650dps are 2 corner idle circuts carbs, does that something to do with it. Iam scratching my head here. Is this normal......
@holleycarbshowtosadvice40y90
@holleycarbshowtosadvice40y90 2 ай бұрын
I'm not a blower guy but it seems they wanted to richen the mixture in the secondaries as rpms increased. Don't know if your blower is over driven or under driven but it sounds like they blocked the hsabs to help a lean condition. Hope this helps

Really enjoy your videos and I am looking forward to part 2 of this series. I have a question my carb is overfueling like crazy. It is not an obvious cause. Mechanic has gone through it and jetted it down but it still soaks the plugs after a few minutes. He just wants to replace the carb. I have been watching a ton of videos to see what it could be and have a few ideas but I am no expert at all. Is there something I should really look at? This carb has be ok in the past and has been cleaned but something must have missed..any advice would be great thanks

What should I focus on when cleaning on my proform 750. My car wont idle, continuously backfires when starting but will run at anything other then idle when giving gas. New gas in an old tank, very dirty fuel filter. I am assuming the carb is full of crud now?

My metering block on my 2 barrel is on so tight I can not get it off. The bowel gasket was super tight as well but it did come off. I have tried everything I can think to to get the metering block off. It seems like adhesive may have been used with the gasket. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Jeff they can stick so tight its unreal, sometimes you can soak the carb in strong carb cleaner awhile and may help but I've had to drive a thin screw driver in the upper corner to break them loose, but it might damage it. If you have to do this make sure you use a thin screw driver. Good luck.
