This is the first part (of two) on how to build the Salvinos JR kit of Richard Petty’s 1979 Daytona 500 winning Oldsmobile. This video concentrates on the engine, interior and chassis - preparation, paint and assembly. Part 2 is about the body, masking & painting the livery, scratch building some extra parts and final assembly.

I REALLY appreciate these 2 videos they are crucial to new builders of these kits. They look GREAT when done but salvinos is a small company trying to do BIG things so some number mismatches and vague instructions are to be expected but can be VERY complicated for beginners myself included. I dont know why salvinos hasnt made videos explaining the issues but im glad you have thanks you have earned a thunbs up and new subscriber!

I don't know if I want to start mine now. I thought I had left all of that behind with the AMT and MPC kits. I guess when I do start, with some trepidation, I shall have to watch your video again.

Hahahaha. Oh, don't get too concerned. Just make sure to check the fit before committing to glue :p

Really well explained video. I'm ordering a Tim Richmond 27 and will more than likely run into similar issues with that kit.

Thanks Stephen. Actually, you might not run into the same issues on the Tim Richmond as I think they are the old Monogram kits re-issued by Salvinos, whereas the Oldsmobile was produced from scratch by Salvinos. Good luck with your build!

@@wixy500 Good to know! Thanks. I will eventually be getting to work on more of the NASCAR series cars in the future so I've saved your video. I'll be needing it for future builds. I'm 70 years old but I think I have some time left to get a few more done. Great hearing from you.

Tamiya makes such accurate kits. I wish they would do a 70's nascar series as it would fill a large hole in the nascar model community.

Great job the reason why the roll cage are rge same back before everyone building there own cars there was a guy named Banjo Matthew's he used a 1964 Ford Galaxy front frame and then used the other cars rear sections he was the best builder back then

I read Banjo supplied quite a number of teams with their chassis in the 70s and 80s, but not sure if that included Petty Enterprises. It would be interesting to see a list of teams than ran Banjo-built cars.

Yep! I have since learned how to strip the Salvinos chrome. Will post a video about it in the coming weeks.
