Referring to Figure 1, the shown steel beam is considered to be laterally restrained at the ends and at the points of load application only. Select and design a suitable UB steel section in S275 grade for the beam shown based on the following data: (a) Dead loads: • Self-weight: 3 kN/m • W1 (Point load): 40 kN • W2 (Point load): 20 kN (b) Imposed loads: • W1 (Point load): 60 kN • W2 (Point load): 30 kN

You will first calculate the design load using 1.4gk + 1.6qk Then if it's a simply supported beam, calculate the design moment using wl²/8 where w is the design load.

Wl²/8 is for the udl dead loads then add Wl/4 for point loads.
