Used your video today to change my Corsa C 1.2 2002 nearside driveshaft. Swift change using you vid. Removed existing one, 'took pics and photos', measured length, counted splines both sides (22) and reluctor rings (29) double checked with supplier and replaced. My 1st successful driveshaft change with your helpful, clear and concise assistance... Big shout out to you.

great chap good humor, i ordered break simple clips for euro cp they told me to come down as they have them in stock when i got there i was waiting around for 50mins to, finally same thing the guy said its not in stock, i went crazy manager came out and solved the problem by giving me the clips out of a break pad box, this guy is right they do want money first, their very lazy and misleading.....also the manager gave me the clips for free so i was happy in the end, still does not excuse their incompetent, nice vid mate

For future reference, these should have a sprung cir clip holding the cv joint on to the shaft, which opens up with some cir clip pliers or needle nose pliers allowing the joint to then pull off. I only know, as I've been doing the exact same thing today on my dads Combo

haha yes martin, the simple wee jobs that turn into a major task. my quick way to get a drive shaft out is, caliper off, track rod loosened, bottom ball joint separated, hub nut back on and done up hand tight, grab the disc at both sides and give it a yank........euro car parts!!!!!......I remember years ago when they first started they only did german car parts, i.e VW, BMW etc etc...and they were spot on but now I wouldn't go near them there service is crap and it takes ages to get a credit note from them if you have an account. I tend to use Dingbro now they are good but only sell to the trade not the general public............anyway looking forward to part 2 keep up the good work cheers Willie.

I've had to deal with Eurocarparts a fair bit and all I can say is that I feel your pain. You should have asked if one of their delivery drivers could deliver it out to you on Monday as a "goodwill" gesture. I have a trade account with them and was somewhat annoyed to find that because they want it to be "competitive", prices on their website are often better than the standard trade prices. If I have to use them, I usually pre-order it on the website instead these days. If you have a higher turnover of parts, you can get a better price with them. Next time, try GSF if they have a branch near you - they are similarly priced and may be better. I've only used them a couple of times, so can't say more beyond that.

Those end drive shafts are held on with a special circlip mate and won't hit off with a hammer you need circlip plyers for them to open the clip outwards then it will pop off the splines.
@newphone890
@newphone890 3 жыл бұрын
I have to change my driveshaft on Saturday, but whats these plyers? And how would they work when the clip is on the inside of the gear box? How would the plyers get in there?
@Megalocade
@Megalocade 3 жыл бұрын
@@newphone890 the driveshaft going into the gearbox only has a snap ring on you don't need to mess with those as they are only there to keep the shaft in the box and come out of the box easy with a prybar but both inner amd outer driveshafts are held onto the splines on the shaft with a circlip that needs to be opened outwards so it goes over the slines as the shaft comes off, if you have a big wide flat bladed screwdriver then this will work just as good to open out the clip

The Corsa does seem prone to CV joint and boot failures for some reason. I've had to do quite a few of them. The worst is when some of them don't have the lip on the joint and the sodding boot won't stay on. I would suggest getting a special cone tool for this job in the future, they are about £15 - you ask for a CV boot that will stretch; use a bit of copper grease to lubricate the tool and then you can use the tool to stretch it over the joint. Saves having to try and get the joint off the shaft. Those are supposed to just tap off, but sometimes the clip spreads out too much and it won't budge.
@retrorestore
@retrorestore 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, this clip was very stuck. I have a stretch CV boot for the Triumph when I come to do it so I do know about them but the breakers yard was just up the road. My fault for not checking for the ABS ring.
@mrman17
@mrman17 8 жыл бұрын
You can even get an air powered stretch tool for those CV boots. I've not used one, but looks like it makes the job a doddle. I don't do enough CV boots these days to warrant the cost, though. (they were about £80 the last time I looks).

As a good will gesture they should have offered free delivery to you direct on Monday! Also not sure if it applies to the corsa but I know on the clio there is two types of abs ring! I think a 25 and 42 tooth! I ordered it from a local group auto factor and it was the wrong one!! I then had to wait 2!! Days for the correct one to arrive but they were very apologetic and have me free front pads and some sundries to help with the job (new pinch bolt and some brake cleaner/WD40). I have since used them on many occasion with no issue! Might be worth trying your nearest independent. Problem with the Nationals is they are faceless no one cars as they are all just an employee number. Sorry for the long reply haha

Blasted ABS sensors. I bought a 10 year old car and the abs sensor went out within 2 or 3 months. Left it with the ABS light on for another 9 years. I SWEAR the stupid ABS stopped the brakes from coming on hard enough the time I hit the kangaroo shortly after getting it. Could've saved $1800 in repairs if the damn thing let me put the brakes on harder (and it was only a little roo). ABS is based on the idea of pulsing the brakes so you can DRIVE AROUND the obstacle and never lock the wheels up. Doesn't work for brick walls, fences or bloody suicidal kangaroos who could keep standing on the roadside but decide they'd rather die.

Lucky me as my lower ball joint has decided to go at the same as the cv joint and everything else looks like its on its way out so the whole lot is coming off and getting replaced; arms, links and shafts. Looks like it'll be a hell of a lot easier to drop the entire suspension assembly and do everything all at once than just do a shaft alone. Never bloody simple, is it?! Here's my experience with Euro Car C--ts; I go on the website, enter my reg, which is supposed to bring up all the correct parts without any fuss, and order a rocker cover gasket, oil filter, three spark plugs and three exhaust clamps. Jump in the car the next morning, drive down to the shop, give my name and order number and the guy asks for my reg... I ask why he needs my reg, thinking it's a bit strange as I already did that myself yesterday, and he tells me to make sure the parts are in stock. Eh?! Of course they're in stock, it said they were in stock and I reserved them yesterday!! "We just have to make sure." Okay fine, give him my reg and what does he do? Goes on their own website to check they're in stock! So I guess that's what they're doing every time they ask for your reg. Anyway, pop your card in and pay, then he runs off and comes back with a bag with the gasket in it, the filter, ONE spark plug and ONE exhaust clamp. Luckily, I spot the missing parts and pull him on it. What's he do? Goes back on the website to make sure they have two more of each part in stock! Again, I've already reserved them!! Off he runs to get the other bits. Happy days, off to a great start! Yeah, that's just the start! Drive home, rocker cover off, old gasket out, open the bag with the new gasket in ... completely different in every way, shape and form. Have a mild mental breakdown. Clean up the old gasket and put it back on, ironically, completely solving the slight oil leak meaning I never even needed a new gasket! Next morning, drive back to the shop and return everything for a cash refund - CASH! No way am I waiting six days for my refund. Didn't even attempt using the other parts as I was that p'ed off with them I just wanted my money back. I just get everything off ebay nowadays.

Easier way is remove the track rod end, remove the bottom ball joint bolt and seperate the hub from the bottom arm. This way there's no need to remove the abs sensor (which can sometimes wring off) and no need to remove the brake caliper and carrier. Also, using secondhand parts like a driveshaft is a waste of time. Even if its just the CV joint which is at fault, the price of a brand new complete shaft is only a little extra.

First part of the video reminds me of what is going on here at my home in Welland, City Works Department has road dug up and replacing sewer pipes and water lines. Now a big digger comes and digs a big hole to hook up the water line, 1 guy in the hole and 20 standing around watching. Just like here, you working and us watching. Now, second part of the video, the Rant, I can bear with you and this recurring car parts problem of, "Yes, we have the parts, sorry, it seems we don't after you spend time and money going to get it. I firmly believe they should reimburse you your gas expense as it was their fault. Also, it should be cash on delivery. No part, no money exchanged. Having a total nightmare with this car.I have finally finished doing this job but now the disk Hub is wobbling what would cause that?
@retrorestore
@retrorestore 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure bud. The hub slides onto the driveshaft and once tightened up, there should be no play.

ok i messaged you a while ago regarding a loose drive shaft. This side has the relucter wheel. I replaced the split CV joint on that, there where 3 bearings underneath the cv joint i cleaned these up greased and literally slotted back into what i thought was the gearbox. Now I have realised that I actually slotted this back into the driveshaft that was still attached to the gearbox. There was no click or force needed to get this back into the other side of the drive shaft and I simply put the cv joint cover on and tightened into place. Now I am and have been having speedometer issues for a while now. If I reverse out of a parking spot turning my wheels to the left as i do sometimes I hear a loud knocking noise and then notice I have no speedo untill I make a hard right turn. I'm thinking my driveshaft may need taking apart again and hitting with a lump hammer to locate it or something. Whats your thoughts on this?
@retrorestore

I couldn't really say as I don't know if you located the driveshaft correctly.

@@retrorestore the driveshaft it located properly in the gearbox... but where the three bearings are behind the cv boot this seemed to just fit in i didnt have to tap it in or anything. I have never took it out the gear box. I think its called universal joint but not sure.

hi. i really like ur videos. u.ll be great mechanic teacher. keep up the videos. i have a question regarding my vauxhall corsa 1.2 2006. the head unit remains on when the ignition is off. do u know why this is. the headunit does have a mind of its own. it goes mute sometimes and goes to fm radio while cd is playing. i was told the head unit is faulty. but wanted ur opinion. thanks

I know what you mean Dave but It can be difficult to remove the bottom ball joint when it's not on a hoist.
