A tip I learn is to use the unbolted bell housing as perch and set the transmission on while putting the case halves together.

The sniff test got me 😂😂, my w56 making all kinda noises...so replaced it with another used one...come to find out 2nd gear synchro is shot...dang...so now I'm over here searching "how to vids" glad I clicked on yours gave me good laugh even though not happy I'm gonna have to drop trans again...😒

I just put my cases back to the midplate or “front butt and back butt” as you call it. 😂😂 I think I missed some holes man 😂😢. My shifter is stuck. Trying to find a real good explanation about that part

Hi, I wanna do a swap w56 to my pick up 1980 4x4 that use l42. I find one from 1987 4x4 but I'm not sure if it is a w56, do you know which year and model has w56 ?

How are the gaskets holding up i try to use gaskets whenever i can and everyone says use fipg gasket maker.I contacted permatex and asked about they're ultra gray and they said its all good to use it on the cases. not sure what way to go on it.

So far so good. No visible leaks just yet. The toyota FIPG gasket maker is the best thing you can use. To effectively use gasket makers, you need to clean the surfaces very well until there is no oil film on them. Also, some permatex dry hard while the toyota fipg dry rubbery. Since I work for the field, the Toyota fipg is used to rebuild all new toyota/lexus engines. Done right, they will last over 100k miles or more. The key is in your cleaning work with gasket makers.

My w56 sounds like a bearing went out. Goes Into the gears fine. But makes a grinding noise that progresses with speed
