Hi Vincent, have a look at some of the videos of the Aussies cooking the redfins (perch).... apparently they also eat them as from lake Geneva in Swtitzerland....and they are meant to be delicious. For some reason we just don't think of them that way, but you as a foodie should definately for research make a couple of perch fillets....for the health ;)

@@vincentdonnellymadirishman5158 As I always enjoy your videos. By the way, _drowning_ the minnows doesn't count! (Messing). C'mere Vince - that opening shot of the morning fog on the lake - I gotta tell you, just that shot alone was _easily_ worth the (metaphorical) price of admission! You could of course say that the scenery in that part of the country pretty well sells itself, but the tourist board are definitely missing a trick in not snapping you up! I often wondered, given their differing techniques, kit, etc, how often course anglers inadvertently catch game fish, or game anglers, course fish. Of course much will depend on the particular waters, if and with what they are stocked, and so on... but given the amount of perch you were pulling out of that lake, it's seemingly not so rare as what you might think! You better watch out, or the next time you're down there you'll find the lake surrounded by fellas in 'windcheaters', with folding stools every 30 feet working multiple rods, egg sandwiches and flasks of tea beside them, smoking roll~ups... Their catapult and baitbox beside them looking like the 'food~keeper~warmer' at a deli counter in Londis or Centra or some such! Besides, you almost have to wonder, what is, and isn't 'coarse' fish anyway? According to a number of people here in the comments, perch would seem to be perfectly good to eat. Mind you, plenty people also eat carp, notwithstanding that you'd probably be beaten up if someone caught you trying to take home one you caught in an Irish fishery! I've eaten it, and I've got to say, I think I'd sooner have those literally rotten tinned herring some Norwegians like, so rotten that the can has to be opened underwater to (somewhat) limit the smell, or that also rotten shark, buried for months in Icelandic beaches, that the locals surely only pretend to like and give to tourists as a kind of mean joke! (What _is_ it with these Nordics?!) Carp is a fish which likes to linger more, even, than most, and I can imagine that in those Eastern European countries where it is 'enjoyed' as a festive delicacy, the festive drinking is mostly for the purposes of allowing this festive delicacy to go down a little more easily, and when, at such gatherings, those in the company who make comments to the effect of "Mum, the Carp was to _die_ for", what they actually mean is, "Mum, eating that carp makes me wish I was dead. And tomorrow, _doubly_ so!" Still, there's no accounting for taste... I remember as a kid (as, no doubt, do you) the enormous shoals of mullet that would make their lazy way, unmolested, up the Lee. 'S••tfish', people called them. Reasonably enough, I suppose, given that in those days the Lee (and no doubt the Liffey, the Lagan and the Shannon) were to all intents and purposes, open sewers... I had one many years later, though, and it has to be said, it wasn't half bad. Not unlike Hoki, if anyone remembers that - or, I guess, a bit like a combination of Hake and Rock Salmon (another old friend from the past!) if one wills. Many people regard eels with disdain, if not indeed disgust. I regard them as quite toothsome - such a shame that that one got away on you(!) - although I draw the line at the jellied variety. And then there is your Basa, lately quite popular. Mild tasting, with an unusual texture, there is nothing in the least intrinsically off~putting about it... as long as you don't know that it also goes by the name of 'Vietnamese Ratfish' (or something similar) and being a farmed fish, like most Salmon, but _unlike_ Salmon, mostly farmed in places that make our Salmon pens more closely resemble those white collar open prisons as compared to _their_ aquatic versions of the Black Hole of Calcutta where you might say they _truly_ deserve the moniker of s••tfish, given that (more or less unavoidably) they eat their own, but not alone that, ours - allegedly - too. Oh well... Horseburgers... BSE beef... 'Grangely' sausages... What's a person to do? Hell, after 12 pints, people in the chippers will practically maim each other for this stuff! Enough rambling... I can't even remember what my point was, or even if I had one, but keep those great videos coming, keep 'ketching' the fish, and mind the chest! Tight lines, Bud... R.

You really made me laugh there. You brought back lots of memories. I remember the great shoals of mullet in the river lee. Millions and millions of them huge fish and there lips sucking anything that floats past. I used to get the bus to crosshaven early in the morning. The first bus in the morning to go fishing for the day. I used to walk to the bus stop i remember one morning a boat in the middle of the lee by the bus station netting the mullet i recognised one of the men in the boat from the market he had a fish stall. The boat was literally full of fish. The same day i was in the market and there was the man in the boat now selling a mullet to a woman customer. I remember her asking him where was the mullet caught i hope it wasn't caught from the river lee shoals of fish. Oh no mam he assured her these fish were caught out in the ocean wild fresh lovely fish. He was such a good Liar i almost believed him. But the mullet in the lee today was probably out in the ocean the day before and maybe tomorrow he may be back out in the sea going in and out with the tide 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 so was the man really lying. Yes he was 😂😂😂😂😂😂 that's a true story but that man is now long dead and gone I'm not saying it had anything to do with the mullet. 😂😂😂😂😂 the market stalls these days have the very best of fish. Thanks again for your comment.
