One of my favorite things to do in situations like that, is just stare right at the person without breaking eye contact cast and just continue fishing without saying a word.

I work a delivery job and I find that works well I add in the blank 1,000 yd lost stare and just boredly tell them a line this dumb KZbinr I watch says. "I'm not here to conversate" The reaction is usually uncomfortable confusion to where they will break off the encounter rather than continue it. If it does continue just rinse and repeat the line over and over again until Karen gives up.

I think it comes down to who was there first. Fishers should be considerate of swimmers and vice versa. We ultimately are using the same resource, and there is only so much space in a given spot.

I'd say they are both entitled to use the water regardless of who was there first. Swimmers can swim in a pool or at a beach. Fishermen only have one option, the water with fish in it.

@@NickMachado although both are entitled, no fisherman would find it acceptable for another fisherman to walk up and cast at the exact same spot. If we assume that both individuals are equal, it's not acceptable for a fisherman to cast at a swimmer because they are already utilizing the area regardless of what it is for. Similarly, a swimmer could swim at a pool just as much as a fisherman could fish somewhere else.

Had a woman ask me “what are you doing with that crawdad? As I was declawing it and putting a rubber band and hook on it to try to catch a big largemouth. The bass at this pond hate the crawdads and fuck em up every time they see them. Anyways I told her exactly what I was doing “I’m putting a hook on it to catch a big fish” She said “it’s just trying to live its life” Without skipping a beat, I came right back with “yeah well I’m just trying to fish without being harassed.” At that she just gave me a look of disgust and walked away.

Reminds me of me and my brothers. I have four little brothers, the oldest of which doesn't really fish, but I do. We go to our grandparent's cabbin every so often and its in front of a beautiful lake. I usually wake up at the crack of dawn to go fishing from the dock, even though I just use a bobber and a worm on this lake. I love fishing even if its just a pumpkinseed sunfish or a yellow perch. The one problem is that when I wake up this early to go fishing, the oldest of the four younger brothers, Finley, tends to follow shortly after. Finley always starts throwing rocks near my bobber, or if I'm casting, he's throwing them towards my line. Once it gets warm enough in the morning, he has to kick me off the dock and jump in the lake, despite me telling him I was there first. Each time this happens, the only thing in my head is, "I wake up at the crack of dawn to go fishing, I should be able to enjoy it and not be pushed around by my idiot of a brother." He then trys to tell me that swimmers have the right of way over fishers because they don't have a "deadly" weapon. I'm fifteen years old, I've been fishing ever since I can remember and my younger brother, who barely goes fishing at all, is calling a worm and a bobber a deadly weapon. I try to argue that I was there first again, but he doesn't take it and tells me, "if you want to fish so badly, get on the kayak and go somewhere else," this wouldn't be bad advice if it were given to more experienced fishermen. I barely get to go fishing, all the lakes that are good for fishing are over an hour away, and I'm bad at trolling while in a kayak. He then says I'm hogging the whole lake, but he can very easily, swim around where I'm fishing and not scare the fish, aka, not going on the other side of the dock where I'm fishing. I barely get to go fishing as is, and barely get to go alone. My dad and my older sister both work, and whenever I get to go to a lake, my brothers need to come. I've always heard my parents yell at me to watch where I'm casting, when I've never heard either of them tell my brothers to pay attention to where they're swimming.

Mark Spitz trained in a lake. Lake water is dense and when you hit a chlorine pool, you fly. We learned how to swim in lakes and slayed, competitively. So, as a retired competitive swimmer, I appreciate this short. Don't swim where lines are out. It's not difficult.

Fishing and swimming guy here... here in germany we have a term that translates as "operational risk" which really is a different story when fishing. So i would always "yield" to a swimmer. Its usually pretty easy to avoid swimmers when fishing if you want to.

Bicyclists are like this on combination bike/walking trails. Sometimes because of heavy foot traffic you end up over in the "bike lane" going around groups. A few months back, my mates and I turned up to fish at a place that became busier later on with wild swimmers and kayakers. One of them complained that we shouldn't have been fishing in an area with so many swimmers. Until my mate pointed out we'd paid to be there, and had every right to fish wherever the hell we wanted. He's the only one we've had any issue with, everyone else has done their best to stay away from our lines, and we've avoided casting when they've been anywhere close to where we've been aiming.

The same thing happened to me this year but I was in a boat. I was fishing off a point while anchored where one Male Karen kept swimming into my bobber fishing area while all the other swimmers had stopped. This Ass ruined my fishing area when they all could have swam behind Where I was fishing. Bottom line I had to move from a productive fishing area.

My first experience with a male Karen was a few years ago when I was 17 I was fishing in a local creek when an elderly guy walked by and stopped to say hey you can't fish with monofilament in here so I said don't you have something more important to worry about then he left lol never saw him again
