I am with you on the Met jewelry - I remember going through the catalogs when I was a kid (my mother has quite a few pieces - it was a go-to gift for my father, so we were on the mailing list, when that was a thing!). I can now identify a lot of the pieces,even if they aren't marked as such (particularly the earrings), and snap them up when I can. But the mourning jewelry is fantastic - I just got a piece that is a a circle/dome pin, with an etruscan revival feel, set with a circle of coral beads and a larger coral bead in the middle, set with a diamond. It's very highly domed, and judging by the back, I think at some point there was hair or a momento in it with glass - but unfortunately that is long gone. My mother and I scrutinized it carefully, and wonder if it was a mourning broach for a child, and the coral beads being from a teething bracelet. There is something about that older jewelry that really makes you wonder on the story of each piece. I adore those grotesque 800 silver earrings - there is definitely a market - look at Cini/Peruzzi, I think you have something there.
@TheFunkyPickleThrifter4 жыл бұрын
CONGRATS on the awesome coral pin -- wow. I don't have anything like that. And I've never heard of Cini Peruzzi, I'll check that out. Glad you also like Met jewelry -- it's very beautifully made. THANKS for all the info and for leaving a comment @annehurricane!!!!! xo
@annehurricane44134 жыл бұрын
@@TheFunkyPickleThrifter To be clearer - look at either Cini or Peruzzi - both are Italian makers of 800 grade jewelry, that do a lot with cupids and gargoyles, etc. Unless there is a mark, it might be hard to directly attribute your earrings, but I think that, with the right keywords to bring the collectors, those will do well. It's unusual to see earrings, I have a few of the crazy necklaces, and would love a pair of earrings like that to go with them.

I used to collect vintage Mexican jewelry and l have sold a lot of my jewelry pieces. I really enjoyed collecting it and todays finds are not as good as they used to be ten years ago. Your brooch at the beginning of this video is a great example of that! I have one that looks very close to yours. I do still have it and it’s a piece l will be keeping. Yours is wonderful and probably made, like you said, in the 40’s. Do you still have it? I hope so (the vintage Mexican jewelry collector in me), lol. I find that, and believe that, that type of Mexican jewelry is art in sterling silver/silver. It is all hand made, each link, each flower, each part. And the most fascinating pieces were made in the 40’s. It’s art in silver much like a painting but in silver. I continue to love watching and catching up with, all your videos. I think you are a sweetheart! Thank you for the education you are providing on jewerly! I have learned so much!

@@TheFunkyPickleThrifter I believe it is antique or very close to it. I see the makers mark on the chain, H & ? the part that is holding the tooth. I do believe those go together, I could be wrong. Maybe if you look up the chain maker you can get an Idea of possible age. That mourning brooch is amazing, did you test it? I had an antique 14k Fleur De Lis brooch that had a patina similar, it was marked 14k.
@TheFunkyPickleThrifter4 жыл бұрын
So the fob is marked "R&F", it seems it is likely Edwardian. That tooth looks like a little piece of folk art, it's possible that somebody in the 1900s or 1910s carved that -- maybe someone put the tooth on their that their granddad or father made? I'm guessing without a signature it would tough to know for sure. It certainly doesn't look professionally scrimmed. Good idea though on looking up the fob. My mourning brooch is just filled -- I can see where the gold has worn away. I only have a few mourning brooches, and they are all just gold filled. No marks either, I just examined every inch of it. Thanks for your comments!!! xo
