Hi Justin, I was anxiously waiting for this installment. Just remember that this is a tricky business so don't expect sucess right off the bat. I will be trying this myself one day. I have pairs that lay eggs constantly even when they have fry on their sides, so no lack of supply. I am anxious to see how things turn out in the long run. Keep trying, keep up the good work. I try to remember also that there are priorities in life and the fact that "life" gets in the way sometimes is just something to accept. It means there will have to be another attempt on another occasion until you have success! Keep it up.

Thank you so much for these words🙂🙏🏼 I’m glad you can relate to this situation. For now, all fish stuff is on hold while Uni kicks off again📚

Hey Justin! It’s Fisher Aquatics. I’m sad to say that I’ve just kind of lost the passion for fish keeping and I’m going on a trip in a few days and have to sell my fish. I hope to get back into it one day. I’m sorry about the babies. But you’re fish room looks like it’s coming along great! I want to wish you good luck in all of your future breeding attempts and future careers. You’re a great guy. I’ll miss talking to you. Maybe we’ll meet again one day. Until then, Good bye.

Sorry to hear about that! I hope you have every success and you manage to get back on top of everything. Maybe one day we can get you some nice rams to start you off again in the hobby:)

I have just bred some more bettas and I use paramecium for their first foods. They are super microscopic but it worked well for me, didn't cloud the tank either, you could then change the water manually with a pipette once a day maybe? Not sure if your airstone would affect the fry getting the paramecium though as its quite powerful. I use just an airline with a knot tied in until they are big enough for the bbs just to keep the surface moving. I know bettas are alot different to discus but if it's the water clarity that killed them. Then surely it's worth a shot? I just did their first 80% water change today and only found 3 casualties, they were alot smaller than the others too :-( I hope you can figure this out until you get more space for the parents to have their own tank. Good luck and greetings from the UK x

Thank you so much for the helpful advice. I will have to keep referring back to this and see what I can do. They have laid a massive spawn recently so there will hopefully be a lot more spawns ahead to experiment with.

I'm so curious as to how this went. This might sound like bragging, but out of the 50 or so non-discus fry that I've raised artificially, I haven't lost a single one; do you think that I will also have success raising discus fry or do you think they have some other requirements that make them special. I'm so confused as to why everyone thinks discus fry are difficult to raise artificially. Is it because they just flat out won't accept any food that's not slime coat?? You'd think they'd at least eat paramecium or rotifer if hungry enough. Are they just the exception out of all fish species??

Hi Justin Sorry to hear your first attempt didn't work out. Please permit me to say. First dont use socks. Use the dark color airstone as i mentioned. From the video just looking at the water cloud indicate that too much egg yolk was used. The amount of egg yolk to use is like one or 2 rice grain size. Mix it with few drops of raw egg white & pinch of spirulina. Rub it between your fingers until it get tacky & sticky then paste it on the air stone. You want a thin layer like slime since youll be replaced it every 4hours.Suspend air stone in the middle of the bowl. Do you have the marina breeder boxes if you do you can use that to raise the fry as it will have constant supply of free water added from the tank. What you'll need to do is get a small rectangle white tub like recycled plastic butter tub that's opaque white inside. Now youll need to make some small alterations. Cut the base & 2 shorter side walls with about 1/2 to 1 inch edge so you can silicone fine mesh fabric like women's nylon stockings use non dye color so the fry can stay inside but allows water to filter through the tub & refresh the water. Think of it like the breeder box that uses the mesh fabric to hold eggs or fry inside the tank. I hope you understand what I'm saying. But in this case you putting it inside the marina breeder box so the air driven uplift tube allows fresh water to flow continuously whilst securing the fry in a small space. As for the pair that keeps laying egg but eating eggs or fry. It's best to isolate them in their own breeding tank. Now I believe you have other fishes they could be eating the fry during the night when pair is resting. One final tip is if you could isolate the Male from the egg, leaving the mom to care for them you might be successful in the community tank once only mom is with egg. Best if luck. Cheers.👍👍👍👍

Thank you so so much! Definitely will be following this. Have you ever tried using Vaseline mixed with egg yolk? Someone mentioned it before but I don’t know if that would kill the fry? I will have to order a bunch of air stones from DHgate or something as they are pretty expensive around my area
@CrowntailHalfmoon2 жыл бұрын
@@JustinsFishRoom I've never heard anyone using vaseline. Honestly I only use food grade quality items with the fry because it's safe. Additives & chemicals found in topical ointments might not be safe for fry. I won't recommend it but if you want to try it please thread with caution. As for the air stone if you don't have any small piece of black plastic or lid could be used once it can stand vertically in the bowl. I understand you've got so many people inputs it can get confusing. Recommend trying someone's method a few time & see if it's successful. Don't mix & match methods right now. Try & see what works then as you gain confidence & success you can adapt/ tweak your methods. Good luck. Cheers.🤞🤞🤞🤞

Oh no, they were looking so good too, damn it. I wonder if you should try less egg yoke, or maybe crushed frozen bbs

Yeah, I was a little sad 😞 I will definitely try less egg yolk next time. Thanks 😊

Oh, I just thought of something else, what about crushed blackworms, I don't know, just guessing, no come to think of it, that might foul the water, hmm, have to think about it a bit more. Sorry

My suggestion is to take the pair out and let them raise them themselves.
@JustinsFishRoom2 жыл бұрын
I am planning to do that once I have the space. But for now this is something I would like to try 🙂👍 So if you have any info or suggestions then please let me know. Otherwise I understand your sentiment but it’s not overly helpful. Thanks!
