PART 2 BEST HALAL HAWKER FOOD Experience is at Geylang Serai Food Centre | Singapore Hawker Food

In this part 2 episode of Singapore Hawker Food, the SmallCityIsland Singapore food vlogger duo was at Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre, also known as Pasar Geylang, in search of great Singapore halal hawker food there. This is Part 2 of the Geylang Serai video.
This time round, we were here at the hawker centre because you had voted for Geylang Serai Food Centre in the poll we had posted. We are more than happy to savour the Singapore halal food on offer there.
Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre has a wide variety of halal hawker food. You can have nasi ayam sambal, dum briyani, kacang pool, indian rojak, goreng pisang, bandung and even Hainanese coffee. The list of hawker food can go on and on.
It will not be uncommon to go to Geylang Serai Market to savour a certain halal hawker food in mind, only to find the stall selling that item is not open. It is good thing that some of the hawker stalls sell the same food item so you will not go home dreaming of what you had wanted to eat.
No food guide or list of “must-try” can really live up to the reputation many of these stalls in Geylang Serai Food Centre has build. It is a Singapore halal food wonderland truly to be experienced.

What we had: Indian Rojak
If there’s one dish that Geylang Serai Market & Food Centre is synonymous with, it’s Indian Rojak. One of the most popular stalls there for it is Rojak & Mee Siam. What sets this long-established stall apart from its surrounding competitors is, in fact, their special dipping gravy. As all traditional Indian Rojak gravy, it actually has sweet potatoes in it.
All their rojak items are affordably priced and our plate of rajah came up to $4.10. Our favourites was the Plain Tepung, Tepong Telur, Tempeh and Cuttlefish. Their Tempeh is also a crowd-favourite item, which boasts a soft crunch and a hint of bitterness.

What we had: Satay
Satays are one of my favourite hawker food. A popular stall selling satay in Geylang Serai Food Centre is Alhambra. Alhambra has been in the Singapore Hawker Food scene for many years and they are definitely here to stay.
There are three different types of meat for their Satays, chicken, mutton and beef. Also, you can get Tripe Satays, which is my favourite of the lot.
Their satay sauce contains a generous amount of crushed peanuts. It covers every skewer with a thick coat of crunchy peanuts and decadent gravy which makes the satays even more delicious.

What we had: Cheng Tng
This is a Chinese owned stall in Geylang Serai Market for more than 40 years. Chee Kong is the Malay translation of the popular Chinese dessert called Cheng Tng.
It was full of different ingredients such as sweet potato, gingko nuts, barley, sugared winter-melon sticks, lotus seeds and white fungus, not too sweet and flavourful, quite delicious and different from the cheng tng normally eaten.
The cheng tng is freshly cooked daily, is not too sweet and is just nice, taste refreshing and cooling. The cheng tng comes in two types which is the cold and the hot version.

What is a hawker?
A hawker in the Singapore context is someone who sells street food and now known as hawker food. In the old days, this was from a roadside stall or a pushcart. These days, hawkers can be found in coffee shops, hawker centres, and food courts (air-conditioned hawker centres). Hawkers usually specialise in a particular cuisine, sometimes in just one dish.
You can find hawker centres and food courts everywhere, including downtown whereas coffee shops tend to be located in the suburbs.

So far you have done:- 1) Hawker centres 2) HBB Perhaps you can go to those food stalls at our heartlands as well. In Bedok there are a few good food stalls for you to try. Maybe elsewhere.

Y not review halal cafes, bistro and restaurants n bakeries Examples, The Malayan Council shud try the roti kirai ribs n pengat pisang kek. Badoque, T-Bob's Corner smoke fire wood beef ribs, pull lamb more.
