@@konikotrestrescinco859This is actually how people with leprosy lose limbs. Leprosy causes numbness in the extremeties. You accidently cut yourself and because you dont feel it, you dont notice it for an hour. You get an infection and your wound constabntly reopens because you cant feel it when it rips. Eventually you lose a finger, a limb, a nose, etc. People with these conditions usually die from infection or a complication of one. Just because they dont even realize they are hurt in the first place.

Basically she has a medical condition where she can't feel pain. And I find it ridiculous that any medical professional would believe she's outright lying about not feeling pain before considering she might have that condition Seeing a lot of upset comments, just know I'm sorry Actually no I'm not sorry, I don't care if its a statistically unlikely outcome, if I watched a child showing literally no discomfort to having a wound stapled shut and then physically rip one out without changing facial expressions at all I'd consider that she can't feel it before considering she's covering for abuse. She has CIPA. It’d been overlooked because of how many homes she’d been bounced around to. The doctor suspects her current foster parents are abusing her but she tells him she has “super powers”. He believes she is covering for them, not wanting to be rehomed yet again. Just after this scene he realizes her encouraging the other kids to hit her, even one with a bat, had damaged something internal she could not feel because of the CIPA. Once he has a name for her condition and tells her it’s not super powers she begs him to keep it from her foster parents as expensive kids with medical issues get returned. In the end the foster parents reassure her and she leaves happily into her baseball batless future.

Most likely to get a few likes from other ignorant people. What I do care about though, is people intentionally spreading misinformation whether it’s irl or on the internet. You do realize that physical nerves in the body are not what cause human emotions... right? Going on believing that people who's nerves don't work can't feel emotion isn't going to do you any good, and rather will just make you assume something completely unrelated about people who don't deserve it. If this is what you think about this topic, I don't think I even want to know how you feel about other ones. I think in this case the sense of danger comes from her experience in the foster care system---being different or 'high maintenance' in the system can make or break your chances of finding a home that you can stay at permanently. She might be worried about being transferred to another home. This is all speculation and they might not have considered that in the show at all, but as someone with experience in the foster system, it's a real problem that all the kids who aren't going back to their biological parents have to worry about.

That could happen. Teachers don't notice a lot of stuff. Think of bullying they never notice that or pretend to not see. Of course there are exception but in my experience usually teachers don't notice or don't care.

CIPA is not just not being able to feel pain. Its also the inability to cool yourself down (sweating) which leads to severe seizures and fevers. Most times children diagnosed with CIPA dont live past the toddler years. Also CIPA stand for Congenital Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis if anyone was wondering.

Basically people who go through this have a special condition that makes their pain receptors/nerves that sense pain, are damaged or not properly attached to certain parts of their brain, making them unable to identify any pain whatsoever. This usually ends up being bad because the body's pain receptors help identify any pain and this helps the person stop whatever is hurting them (say you put your hand on a stove, the pain receptors identify the area of damaged tissue and tells the brain that you are hurting which causes pain, and as a result, you move your hand). People who can't feel pain cannot so this (so their hand would stay on the stove, causing further damage) which usually causes them to not tell if they are truly hurt or not, which, if they are, can cause them to be somewhere from hurt to dead.
