14:10 FINALLY!! I bought a tiny pot of this in the supermarket ages ago and I've been looking for the name since then! I knew/ strongly suspected it was a peperomia but couldn't find it on google. Thank you :D PS: lovely collection, I wish I had some of those green babies

Cool collection !! Perhaps your tradescantia pallida would like to hang in your sunnier window?... since it is such an outdoor loving plant. My Arizona friends grow it outside with protection from the harshest sun and plenty of light and it grows so lush! Haven't been able to find one for myself- the purple leaf color and pink flowers amaze me. I have the green and purple striped tradescantia with the backs of the leaves full-on purple. It is constantly leaning for extra light- which I don't have!

I love your plant excitement 😍 I've enjoyed watching your latest plant your vids today while tending to my plant wishlist... I've now got at least 30 on my "must buy immediately" list, and that's after thinning it down to ones that might actually work in my low-light little flat (east-north-east windows, plus one east-south-east window in the hallway). So far I have only a little dracaena marginata and dracaena compacta I picked up in the supermarket, neither of which have a proper home or pot yet! I think I've narrowed my list down to "just" these 6: Maranta leuconeura erythroneura, either C. roseopicta Medallion or C. roseopicta Dottie (or maybe both?!), Dieffenbachia 'Tropic Snow', Aglaonema Maria, and last but not least, a little Tradescantia spathacea 'sitara'. Except for the part where that adds up to £75 on the cheapest sites I've found, before I even add any pots (and I have a list of about a dozen of those I want too)... plus I don't know quite whereabouts they might go in my flat, and I should really get rid of some junk so I can make room for beautiful joy-sparking plants! Argh!

Wow what a collection! I'm at 42 plants and it feels like a lot. The bromeliad at 1:00 appears to be a Neoregelia 'Fireball'. I don't think there is a species name for this particular plant. If you place it in bright light the foliage should eventually turn pink/red. I've had mine just a week getting a few hours of direct sun and I can already see some pink on it.

Hey nick, have you ever dealt with spider mites? Can you give me some tips of getting rid of them?
@maryannlammersen65366 жыл бұрын
I heard they thrive in a warm and dry environment (like most of our spaces) so after you find a successful treatment, try to place it in a cooler, more humid area of the house. Our plant store has a variety of sprays. You might try giving it a shower periodically also...mites don't like that.
@js.sheng11226 жыл бұрын
Mary Ann Lammersen I did give them a shower since i didn’t wanna spray chemicals on them (most of them are calatheas). I showered them twice after i found out the infestation, now i still check the plants everyday but i cant see any mites under the leaves anymore. Just to he safe, I’ll keep checking and misting them every day and give them another shower this week. Thanks a lot for the tips! ;)

After a good blast with a shower hose, since the soil & plant & pot are all soaked, how 'bout a spray with an insecticidal soap - or make your own? In a decent spray bottle with an adjustable nozzle, including a fine mist, fill with filtered tap water - with a neutral pH, & add a small amount of Dr. Bronners or Dr. Woods liquid castile soap - apparently peppermint works best - or any *** non-detergent *** dish soap. The amount of soap depends on the size of the spray bottle. I'd suggest enough soap to feel a slight film on your fingers when you spray them & rub them together. Shake well & if you have concerns about chlorine, let water stand in an open bowl for 24 hrs. Then put 1/2 tsp soap solution into the bottle, then slowly fill with the water, using a funnel. Stop at 1/2 way full, give it a good shake & test for desired amount of soap. If too soapy, add more water. if not soapy enough, add another 1/2 tsp & add more water to test with your fingers again. Spray the soil thoroughly with enough to seep into the soil with subsequent waterings. Re-soak the soil before the next few waterings. Spray the pot well too - on all sides & the bottom. Spray the entire plant - especially the undersides of leaves by slightly tipping the plant to one side.Remember, the soil will be wet & you want to keep any soapy soil & water from pouring out into your carpet or your clothes as you tip it. Spray the stems & the top sides, then set atop a newspaper, paper or plastic bag, towel etc., to catch the solution dripping off the plant You don't want to stress the plant by coating it too heavily, but once the plant has dried, in a couple of days - I recommend a second thorough spraying. Then spray all the other plants as the surviving mites may have relocated. If the leaves were touching, if on the same shelf, if you touched the leaves of the infested plant then touched other plants, you likely helped to relocate a few mites on your hands. So clean all the surfaces the plants were on & vacuum the rug or floor in that room. They have legs, so will walk away from the sprayed plant if still alive.. After a week or so, put the formerly infested plant in strong sunlight or other light to have a close look with a magnifying glass, if possible. Make sure they're gone, then give them all a good shower to remove any film & dead bodies of mites or eggs, & let the plants breathe, finally free of: mites, scale, mealy bugs, aphids or whatever cooties they wuz. .
