My secret to Peace lily keeping. I had a white bag of fish gravel in my aquarium supplies. I went to a Good Will and found a small round clear fish bowl. Went on Ebay and hit a search on " Peace Lily Aquarium plant" They come with clean roots since never being in dirt. Poured some gravel in bottom of bowl filled slightly with water, centered the little plant in bowl and let it grow keeping the leaves above water. I collect Sanseveria species for a more modern look and this free floating Peace Lily with it's clear bowl base is rather beautiful. Since in lives with it's roots under water you never have to worry of it drying out. And I feed it every once in a while.

I also have the jungle velvet at 12:00. The leaves curled a lot and it was not happy in its 6” pot. Repotted it to an 8-10” pot with more room for the roots to breathe and grow. It’s near an east facing window. I water it 2x per week and mist the leaves every other day. Now it is growing 4 new leaves!

I find that my string of pearls prefer a shaded position. I used to have it hanging in bright light but it looked a lot like yours and then when I moved it under the eave of my house it exploded! So give that a try. It's actually a little more demanding than my chain of hearts in difficulty now so give that a go :))

Hey Nick, a beautiful collection! :) just a quick note - The Monsteras showed in 4:00, 7:05 and 8:38 are all Monstera Borsigiana which is a different species to the Deliciosa, and not a variety. Each species has it's own varieties (variegated etc).
@NoteOnMyBed
@NoteOnMyBed 6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Bp How do you tell them apart? All monsteras look so similar to me!
@jeffbp4945
@jeffbp4945 6 жыл бұрын
There are a couple of ways to differentiate between the two, Borsigiana has a different growth pattern, it's vining up rapidly at a young age (that's why it's recommended to plant it with a moss pole or a trellis) where the Deliciosa start to climb at a more mature age, therefor when you spot a Deliciosa at a nursery or a plant shop their vines are thicker and shorter and running mostly parallel to the soil, they usually sell one plant per pot, while the Borsigiana has longer, thinner vines and they grow upright so they're able to clamp several plants per pot to make it look fuller. Another way of telling them apart is the geniculum (where the stem meets the leaf), in the Deliciosa you can find ruffles on the sides of the stem and the Borsigiana doesn't have that feature. When mature, Deliciosa has bigger leaves with more perforations and slits compared to the Borsigiana and in general - The Delisioca is a bigger and more of a "chunky" plant compared to the delicate Borsigiana.

@@jeffbp4945 , sorry in general I'm agree with you (with characteristics you mentioned). But I have to say that both are Monstera deliciosa. One it's Monstera deliciosa borsigiana, and the other, Monstera deliciosa. Liebm, if you want to be more precise. And about 'ruffles', you can find them on the Monstera deliciosa borsigiana as well, but less often and at a more mature age than Monstera deliciosa Liebm.

You should try the “Zero Water” filter pitcher for the plants that seem to be prone to developing crispy tips. I had serious issues with Calatheas and Alocasia Amazonica. Since watering them with filtered water no more problems. Brita filters do not remove dissolved solids to the extents that the Zero filter does. It even comes with a probe that shows a readout of the total dissolved solids in the water.

Can you talk about your watering schedule and how you manage 150 plants? Like they all don’t need to be watered at the same time, so how do you manage all that? I have about 80 plants and I’m struggling
@NickPileggiPlants
@NickPileggiPlants 6 жыл бұрын
Lol 😂 I just let them tell me when they need to be watered! When one is looking a little flimsy, I’ll check it and give it water. Otherwise I tend to let them be! I let them handle everything else 😝 Of course whenever I find pests I have to get a little more in depth and check everything out, but I really just step back and wait for them to tell me when they’re in need of something 🌿

String of pearls it’s not a hard plant to take care of , one mistake you are doing is that you placed it right up against south facing window, The light exposure for this plant should be bright but not direct or it will get burned. Move it a little bit away from the window and it will grow as easy as most other succulent plants.

That one plant that you have that someone said was a german something or other is an Epiphyllum oxypetalum. I have one because of my grandfather's plants back home in puerto rico, which was turned into like 30 plants over the decades because you just take a leaf and put it in the dirt and it turns into a whole new plant. they have flowers that only open for one night, which is why they call it the queen of the night.

How to you get your monstera deliciosa to have large split leaves? When I bought it, it had huge leaves with lots of splits, but all of the new leaves are small leaves with no splits. I moved it to a south facing window where it gets a ton of light, and the leaves got slightly bigger, but they're still small with no slits. I feel like I have tried everything, but nothing has worked. I absolutely adore your plant collection, by the way :) It's so inspiring! I have quite a few as well, but they are all in one corner of my apartment because, sadly, I only have one window.

Glad I'm not the only one that struggles with peace lily. Mine will look amazing start to flower then go through a funk or like i call it leaf drama lol... or sometimes while going thorough it's funk it will start to flower?? But it never flowers in a good way or how i pictured it i guess.. don't know. I recently trimmed back my big Lillie just enough to give new growth a chance it looks awesome right now but give it a month lol I recently gave up on one of my lilies first plant i have ever tossed after 3 year battle keep in mind i rescued it but i could never really make it happy or look nice. I was tired of looking at it :( A month ago i rescued another little lily it is already looking good it will stick around & the 5' ficus Benjamin i rescued with it i cut back and put in South window and it is already loaded with new growth! My cuttings are also rooting i noticed yesterday. I'm excited! I love coleous i will have to try some inside i grow them outside they are huge beautiful texture in my containers. I have never started from seed i will have to give it a try :) you have so many plants i want and need in my life lol I enjoy your videos glad i found your channel. Thanks for the tour!

so your cats don't eat your plants and get sick? I have about 80 plants and was thinking about getting a cat but thought it would get poisoned... ?
@mmtruooao8377
@mmtruooao8377 6 жыл бұрын
I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to plants, but I've lived with cats all my life, so here's my advice. 1. All cats have different personalities so it heavily depends on whether they eat plants or not. No plants survive at my house, they devour anything that moves, but i have a few friends with a lot of plants and their cats don't bother them at all. If you want to get a kitten, you'd have to train it a lot so it takes out energy on your toys instead of plants (keep in mind that habit they have of knocking things down, usually for attention, and racing around the house at seemingly random hours to expend energy). A shelter cat who's lived in a house with plants before, or a super chill old cat, would be the best options. 2. Most houseplants are dangerous to cats when ingested, but Lilium and Hemerocallis species are extremely dangerous to pets, can cause kidney failure quickly. If you were to get a cat, even if it did not ingest plants, I would remove any plants which fall in those two classifications. 3. Cats can eat some plants, and it can aid in digestion despite being carnivores, but it tends to be mostly herbs and grasses. I wouldn't recommend this as it would encourage them to eat your houseplants.
@pepegapapaya

@@mmtruooao8377 cool I actually just adopted a stray yesterday. It's a great cat so far and its not at all interested in my houseplants. I think because it's used to surviving in the wild it knows that some plants are poisonous. but it may be too soon to tell. Every inch of my tiny house is filled with pothos plants mostly. But this cat seems right at home and pretty chill, very affectionate/cuddly :)

Nice collection Nick! I have over 150 plants as well and it can be so overwhelming at times. You've motivated me to do my update video. Thanks for sharing. Come check me out as well. And I'm looking forward to part 2!
