Note to other builders; Side metal should be applied first, then roof metal leaving about 3/8" to 1/2" overhang(depends on Drip Mold size). Apply sealant tape to edge of side at roof line, then hammer form overhanging roof metal over tape and side and staple. When applying Drip Mold, use more sealant tape This way you get a double sealant tape and a weather metal wrap over side. You should also use a wicking barrier under the metal. like Tyvek or even 15# felt as wood rot will occur at metal to wood contact due to internal condensation. Be extra careful sealing all openings and seams as vacuum* can draw moisture into the structure. Porch or epoxy paint should be applied to the bottom side and edges of the floor before applying to frame. *Vacuum @ road speeds can be quite high, particularly at the rear and hatch area. Pressure at the front can push moisture in assisted by any interior vacuum.

It has been a real pleasure to see the construction of this very good looking travel cabin! I particularly respected your meticulously precise attention to detail and very high standards of workmanship, which are apparent wherever the eye settles on your beautifully constructed and presented home on the road. Your build radiates craftsmanship and high quality, and puts many of the commercially manufactured ones to shame. Many viewers will be hugely inspired to consider the construction of their own, and will attempts to emulate your outstanding build quality, subscribed.

Hello there. Great job!!. Where did you get the aluminum angle trim?. I've been wanting to build something similar, but I can't find the trim to finish the edge.
@WanderTears Жыл бұрын
It’s called RV corner insert trim. You can find it through Recpro or Vintage Technologies.

At 2:33, you added corner trim. What did you use? Looks like aluminum angle. If so, how did you bend it? Awesome video. Thanks.
@douggraham58122 жыл бұрын
Important tip for working with aluminum: Always smooth cut edges, always deburr all holes. Not only does this help keep the edges from slicing your hands, but sharp edges in aluminum sheet are places where stress cracks can start.

Is there a reason you chose aluminum siding as opposed to painting it? Could you use another metal like copper?
@WanderTears Жыл бұрын
Aluminum is lightweight, durable and fairly cheap - between $100-180 a sheet. Copper would be so neat if you’re okay spending $1000 on the sheets.

That is amazing, great job! May ask how much did the material cost? I think some of those tear drop trailers are really pricey and yours look just as good. Once again great job.
@WanderTears3 жыл бұрын
Well we do build and sell these full time now. The cost to do it yourself has significant savings, however, it’s just what you’re comfortable with. We also have plans to help DIYers build this specific model and our popular Vaga model. Check them out on our website. But to answer your question, I think the materials on this one cost around $5k. Prices have gone up since then (March 2021 is when we built it)
