Following this saga.... I like the method of filling the TKS tanks directly from the 55 gallon drum. That 12 volt DC pump with the automobile battery is nifty.

Its finally put together and it does feel nifty! Thanks for watching Rocky!

I use TKS in 2.5 gallon containers purchased from vendor instead of 55 gal.drum. I also use a flashlight battery driven pump purchased at Home Depot for less than $20. I place the 2.5 gallon container on the aircraft wing. One end of pump is inserted in the 2.5 gallon container. I also use a funnel inserted in the aircraft TKS filler port. This funnel has an indicator that shows when the fluid in the airplane is full. The other end of the pump is inserted into the funnel. Turn the pump on with the switch and fluid is pumped from the 2.5 gal. container into the funnel and drains into the aircraft. Regulate TKS flow to funnel with on/off switch. Aircraft TKS is full when funnel indicates full. Check TKS quantity on MFD after filling and it confirms full every time. I learned about this process from posts on COPA. Only downside is increased cost of TKS fluid over 55 gal. drum , but process is much easier and less complicated than using 55 gal. drum.

This sounds like a great process and fun way to go about this. Do you get your 2.5 gallons online or from an FBO?

@@al.waterloo A vendor in St.Louis ships to me in Delaware i20-30 gallons at a time in 2.5 gallon containers. Usually 1 shipment lasts all winter. Al, I enjoy your channel, am a subscriber, and appreciate you responding to my comment. Happy New Year and safe flights.

Great video. Nice setup. We have a Cessna Caravan that we are looking at setting up an auxiliary TKS tank in the cargo pod so we can refill our 21 gallon TKS tank during long flights without relying on an FBO. I'm thinking of adding another 20 gallon tank to the Pod that is secure and that's easily removable when empty. We plan on using a Milwaukee cordless transfer pump used to transfer TKS to the main tank. I was thinking of venting the tank with a rollover vent valve so fluid won't splash out during steep bank/pitch the Milwaukee pump will have a 4 way valve tied into the tank suction, pump discharge nozzle with the capability to actuate the 4 way valve so the pump can suck out of a supply drum (with a special attachment to the nozzle) to refill the tank. That's the theory anyway. Haven't built it yet but welcome any comments. Thanks again for this video. KZbin videos like this make the world go around.

If you have to take the barrel out to the ramp will the wheels of the dolly be able to get over the hanger door tracks? They look kind off small.

Just an idea but why not just do a post flight check? Wheel over your setup and refill?

I am a big fan of fueling to your mission! There might be some days I need the extra weight and it will be helpful to have it not be full. Same thing with fuel. I often plan a flight for 3 people then 4 people show up! Helps to have that little wiggle room.

Hey, any update on this setup? Is it still working? Thinking of trying something similar.

Great idea, I like it. Just a thought, how about putting the fuel caddy on a wagon with a 12 Volt battery. Install another 12 VDC pump on the red fuel caddy. Connect the blue barrel pump to the battery on the wagon to fill the fuel caddy. Then disconnect the blue barrel pump and connect the fuel caddy pump to the battery to operate that pump while next to the plane. I apologize I am typing this while sitting in a vehicle.
