Another fabulous episode! That first group of pins with the black enamel would be worn later on in mourning. There were a number of stages, and predominately gold jewelry would not have been in the first few. Also the leaf and plant motifs symbolize rebirth and regrowth, so we are also moving on symbolically from the death and grieving. Al the start of mourning, we were all in black, if we could afford it.

Sandra, one big difference between gold filled and gold electroplate is gold filled can be scrapped, whereas, gold electroplate cannot. I have also heard the pin referred to as the sword. Love the blue glass piece! 💖🌹💍💎

I didn't even mention gold electroplate -- I think that has a millionth(!) of an inch of gold -- just about nothin! LOL! Rolled gold plate usually contains a good amount of gold too. THANKS for watching. Hugs.

I used vinegar on a piece totally encrusted with verdigris. It came out sparkling just needed a few minutes soak and a stiff paintbrush!!!

Hi Sandra, loved the video! I was very intrigued by the little mummy charm. I took a screenshot and did an image search on Pinterest. A lot of really creepy stuff popped up. Just as I was about to give up, the last image was a hit. There’s a very old Catholic orphanage in Florence, Italy that has images of babies wrapped like that on the outside of the building. It’s Brunelleschi’s facade for the Spedale Degli Innocenti and orphanage. So it’s a tourist souvenir. And it’s very cool! Thank you for sharing your wonderful antique jewelry ❤️

This was Great! The miniatures were really interesting and fun. Loved the little house with the two pigs in it! Additionally, the bracelet that you put on your "wrist" display is really gorgeous. The necklace with little roses that you put on the Neck display is also beautiful. The brooch made from bird wings and coral is amazing. However, I just can't get into the hair jewelry, sorry. 3:09 On a piece this old, the gold plating is called rolled gold, not gold fill, but I've read that they're very similar in quality (very good). Someone more educated that I am could tell us what the difference is. I'm also wondering if that clasp is a replacement clasp from maybe the 1930s, or if they did make this type earlier than I'd thought.

It’s possible, but I believe gold filled jewelry has been around since the early 1800s. The piece seems filled to me, but maybe not. I don’t think it’s important either way, because I like it anyhow. Thanks for watching!

I don’t think the stork and Prince Edward photo are a matched set. The stork says 1909. Prince Edward of Wales was born in 1898. He was made Prince of Wales 1910. The stork signifies birth. Probably a family member had the stork to commemorate a birth in the family. Prince Edward of Wales was the heir apparent. He wound up being a royal disappointment when e fell in love with Wallis Simpson and abdicated the throne after less than a year.
