Thank you, and there are distinct changes in surfaces I always pay attention to, it is a very big indicator of where I am. And when you are blind, your memory has to be sharp. Next week I’m going to do another shopping video at target with my go Pro and using my app so look for that! :-)

it bothers me so much sometimes when you call out to someone that’s there and they ignore you and keep walking 😖😖
@JoyRoss
@JoyRoss 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately this happens quite often. I think people just would rather ignore me then help, not that they’re always being rude, they just may be afraid or self-absorbed.

@@JoyRoss people are just too quiet around you. shy has a lot to do with it as well. people just don't want to get involved as it leads to trouble. people are also usually too busy to properly observe things. the mobile device and internet age is certainly great tools however they also are far to distracting. everyone with good eyesight is near constantly looking down at they phones. its easier to ignore than it is to say the wrong thing and end up in the middle of a dramatic scene. also a huge problem with offering help. people take offense all to often when people offer help. so people stopped doing even simple things like holding a door open for a lady. so good work. you are making an effort to change people's perceptions on many things. i feel like i just met you. i can imagine going to the store without vision. it would be impossible. not without years of practise. and clearly the guide dog was of more help than i had thought. now im going to watch your other video i see here. titled this is how i read, write, and use my iphone7 with voice over. primarily because i want to brush up on my grammar. constantly wondering how much of all this text you will be able to understand. i dont like how the younger generation changes text to make it look cool although i do it a little myself.

God bless you both and take care! Thank you for having the courage to share things like this to educate not only the younger generations but anyone for that matter because I've never met a blind person but this truly does educate me on how special it would be to meet someone like that. You have taught me a lot on how to be more helpful to my blind friends and family members, but also my patients. We are taught how to relate to lots of different people when we are in nursing school, and later in clinical practice, but it’s easy to forget how the world might appear to someone else. My mom passed away at 48 years old. She always made sure that I looked my best. But after she died I lost all self confidence and stopped caring about myself and just really letting myself go. You have really shown me that makeup is for yourself and not just other people. Everything you do is to make YOU feel good and that’s amazing. I’m slowly but surely going to the dentist and to the hair salon and becoming myself again. I love watching your videos and kinda pretending your my mom. I’m very jealous of your daughters of the mother that they have. You are AMAZINGLY beautiful. I feel like I’m your number one fan! These replies.. obviously none of you have worked at retail. I've worked at target for 2 years and it becomes habit to say the "letter" instead of a actual section name, because that's what we are used to. The lady most likely didn't realize at first that she was blind, as after a few seconds she became more helpful. I'm guilty of saying the "letter" as well, it just comes naturally. A - Beauty/Health/Household second B - Kitchen, Stationary C - Bath, Storage, and household items D - Household Items, Decor, Kids and Adult Bedding E - Toys, Sporting Goods F - Electronics, Luggage, Pets, Seasonal G - Grocery O - Infants (this is how it is in my store)

@JoyRoss

I have probably received a lot of dirty looks, but as soon as they notice the white cane and see that I am blind they feel bad. This is what my family and friends have told me when this has occurred. But honestly, I can’t recall a moment where there has been an incident where someone has been completely rude to me. I find so many people are kind, and if they have a problem with me, they give me a rude look, but hey, I can’t see the looks!

Thank you so much! Through my challenges I find strength and more confidence! I practice patience every single day of my life. Being blind isn’t always easy for sure, but I am grateful because it’s helped me to relate to others who are facing great challenges in their own life.

Joy Ross you are truly an inspiration. I am hearing impaired and my mom is a asl interpreter. She’s been teaching me asl my whole life even before I became hearing impaired. Thank you so much.

Hi Joy, I’m a 17 year old junior in high school. I have a question and my question is do you have any tips or anything like that for self confidence in school when I use my cane? Because I get really embarrassed when people look at me because I still have some sight. You also really inspire me too!!

Joy, I’m a fellow subscriber and watching your videos is so inspiring. You talked about not being afraid to ask for help and that was so inspirational to me. I have dyslexia and I’m always afraid to ask for help but recently I’ve been learning how to do that . You should really do inspirational talks

Such a amazing video, I like these type of videos, I’m hoping there’s more coming in the future, I don’t mind if they’re too long, I found this video to be a bit short but oh well, anyways have a nice day joy!

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video. Did you see part one of the shopping adventure? I could’ve made this video a 45 minute video LOL, but I thought that was way too long so I broke it up into two separate videos.

Joy Ross yes, I’ve seen part 1, and I understand that you’ve cut them into two parts, I just find it enjoyable seeing you shopping, it wasn’t short but for example I wouldn’t mind if you included some footage with the customer service, other than that it was a wonderful video as always!

I would have filmed the customer service shopping adventure, but after filming for 45 minutes or more, and all the stress LOL, I just wanted to relax for a bit. As you can probably imagine through these videos, you can see that it can take a lot out of you especially while filming everything. I will be going back to target this next week in film a customer service shopping adventure, as well as a video with me demonstrating my apps while I film with my go Pro strapped to my chest. Should be fun :-)

Joy Ross awesome, I can’t wait, and yes it’s very stressful, and I’m sorry if i pushed you, I didn’t want to give you this feeling. Also one more question, do you edit your own videos? If so how do you do it? I’m genuinely curious
@JoyRoss
@JoyRoss 6 жыл бұрын
No worries, just look out for the customer service video next week. And about my editing, yes, I really want to do a video on this but it has been really hard to get someone to video me while I am editing. It also is time consuming, trying to figure out how I would show this to all of you. I know it would be mine blowing though, everything I go through, doing it all by sound, finger swipes, and memorization. I first go into my Camera app on my iPhone, listen through my video clips, in this case it was a 45 minute video, had to figure out which parts I wanted to use, click the edit button on the 45 minute video, trimmed with finger swipes the beginning and end of the video to select the different portions I wanted, then after I had trimmed and saved about 10 different video clips of the part one and part two videos, I had to memorize each time signature in order... 32.3 seconds, 1.05 minutes, 3.15 minutes, 5. 10 minutes, 2.2 minutes, 5.14 minutes, then go into iMovie, navigating only through sound in through finger swipes, tap on each time signature that I memorized, create the movie, listen to it in its entirety to make sure everything flows the way I want, then I export it back to my camera roll, go into KZbin, select the video, title it, and then upload it! It probably took me an hour to edit both of these videos, but I did it all on my own with my eyes closed ha ha :-)

Thank you for making this video joy. I am visually impaired and watching your videos have encouraged me to continue to practice my mobility skills and tempted to enhance my independence. Do you need to ask in advance for shopping assistant?
@JoyRoss
@JoyRoss 6 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome, and I think that is great! To answer your question, no, in a large store like target, there is usually someone who would be available to assist you when shopping. Just go up to the customer service counter and ask for assistance, make sure to tell them that you are visually impaired.

Amazing! This really is an adventure to watch! Wow. How did you figure out those were M&M's? I assume the feel of the wrapper and maybe the smell? I find it incredible that you would keep shopping on your own without help! Independence? Who said blindness should take that away? Keep going!

Espeon804 I think anyone could tell that they were m&m's just by touch since they're pretty distinct. Other than skittles no other candy really feels like them.

I loved your comment! Yes, who says blindness has to take away once independence!! That’s why I do these types of videos. I love to prove to myself that I can do it, at the same time proving to the world that blindness is not a death sentence, and it does not mean you cannot live an amazing and beautiful life. Yes, it can be extremely challenging at times, but it also can be a blessing and be fun. And to answer your question about the Eminem’s, when I touch the bag, I could feel the small circular candy coated chocolates inside. There are only a few treats that feel like this. You have M&Ms, skittles, and Reese’s pieces. I bet you would’ve figured it out as well if your eyes were closed :-)
