@@donrainesoh Ye something like that, cuz most ppl are used to see a blind ppl without eye color (it's like silver or white, only when it's completely blind), at first I didn't believe that she was blind because of the color of her eyes when I watched other of her videos but I search about her condition and it's possible to have eye color and being completely blind.
@donrainesoh5 жыл бұрын
LadySoulSystem oh, I’m finding out there are a lot of people that have that impression. I’m thinking it’s because of Hollywood. We tend to see all blind people in movies have eye discoloration, so maybe that’s why so many have that impression. To be honest I just found out almost two weeks ago I am going blind. My left eye is far worse so I tend to just use my right eye to watch KZbin and do a lot of things. However, I’m unsure how long that will last. That’s how I ended up here on KZbin watching blind and visually impaired videos. I actually had no clue blind people did KZbin like this. I knew about a Molly Burke, but only because of Shane Dawson. I’ve watched so many videos this past two weeks I’ve gained so much knowledge. I told my aunt that lives next door and she even saw the printout of everything my ophthalmologist gave me to take to my neurology appointment as I also have a condition called visual snow syndrome on top of my retinal disease. Anyhow, my cousin had came in and I walked into the door that was halfway open and I couldn’t see due to leading with my left eye. He laughed and asked if my glasses weren’t working. My aunt then said “that’s not funny he just found out he might go blind someday.” So even knowing my condition and prognosis she isn’t registering the doctor said I WILL be BLIND and I have a huge (chance) my retina will detach in my left eye as well due to the retina being so thin. She was like your eyes look so healthy and I’m like yes they will always look nice, but it doesn’t mean they will work properly. Haha such is life.
@ladysoulsystem62425 жыл бұрын
@@donrainesoh Sorry about you disease, it must be horrible to have that and also scary. It can be treated right? I wear glasses as well because I have myopia.
@donrainesoh5 жыл бұрын
LadySoulSystem unfortunately no, one is a problem with my cortex causing the visual snow syndrome and the other my retina is literally deteriorating. I’m at peace with it though, after watching all of these videos I’m not scared anymore.

I recently navigated 3 airports with low vision for the first time. It was a nightmare. I couldn't read the seat numbers, the gates, the directions, or anything. But I am not blind so I could see where I was going. I was bumbling around until I found the right place to be, and passengers thought I was just being dumb when I asked if I was at the correct seat. Like they couldn't believe I was asking what seat it was when the marker was right in front of me. I am binge watching your videos to try to see what having assistance is like because I need to fly again soon and I wanted to check out if this actually helps the process, or if it's even more anxiety inducing than not being able to read anything. It seems like a different set of challenges. Thanks for posting these. It's like the only videos I can find on what navigating an airport with low-vision is like so this has been VERY education and helpful to me.

I think the ppl are a lil confused when they first interact with Joy because who honestly thinks abt a blind person making videos or taking pictures etc... I don't think it's a natural concept t for most ppl to equate blindness with camera/video/filming. It's not something I've ever thought abt prior to watching her videos. It's just a lack of knowledge that can be easily taken for granted by sighted ppl. I love Joy and her channel.

Joy Ross I would be fearful the app would lie to me and tell me its a $1 bill when in reality it was a $100. Also sorry to here someone was oblivious to your needs while at that airport, I work in the Milwaukee airport and they really don't offer any training to any employees of how to accommodate to those with additional needs. I guess that person forgot about Stevie Wonder and all the many that exist in pop culture. oy vey

I'd heard that before apps, a trusted person would fold the denominations in different ways so the blind person could tell and not be cheated.

When i did some volunteer work at a school for blind kids they would show me how when they were given money they would fold it in different ways. Like 1s down the middle short ways; 5s down the middle shorts ways; 10 would be triple folded down the middle short ways; and 20 was quad folded. When you get back change, they just asked what i was handing them and folded one at a time. So only issue they would have is is a cashier was lying.

I know I'm a bit late to the party. My two cents is that people are scared of being blunt. I'm in Minnesota and originally from Scotland. We are a little more to the point back home. One example is that when white people talk to people with different coloured skin they dance around asking them where they're from by asking it in really weird ways. I've got no problem with it because I have a thick accent and I'm clearly not from Minnesota originally. I think people tiptoe around disabilities because they don't understand them. They treat it as being ugly or someone looking really in that you 'just don't bring it up'. Which is nonsense, if you're blind you're not offended or hurt by other people noticing. In fact, it probably would make your life easier if people would notice quicker. I shit you not when I say that I've seen people on the street stop talking and go really quiet when passing a blind person as though a hearse just drove by. Because having silence on a busy street is a great setting for a blind person to navigate right? It's weird behavior I can't fully explain.
