Shell Dweller Cichlid - Neolamprologus Multifasciatus, or for short, Multies are a special type of Cichlid for many reasons. The first reason is they are shell-dwellers, or Shellies, which means that they live and breed in shells. They are the smallest African Cichlids with big personalities.

I bought mine off of a seller on eBay. If you know how to ship fish you can thin them out that way. Mine are about 6 months old but were juveniles when purchased. Actually really small compared to the larger cichlids I have had in the past. I am down to just this tank now. I had MTS when I was younger but slowly got rid of my tanks & fish. I have these guys in my office to watch them. I also have a eheim heater now. 75w Definitely nicer quality heaters with thicker wires. 👍🤞

Good luck! I started my Shelly tank with the same fish approximately 2 years ago…started with 6 now have over FIFTY! They LOVE my Florida hard water….trust me…before you know it you’ll have fry! Get ready! They are great fun and I have only lost one adult due to my power going out and my E pump not kicking on. Very lucky I didn’t lose more. Be sure to have a pump backup…they need moving water. I have two sponge filters - one at each end of my 20 gal tank.

Being from SC now we also have high ph & had water. I wasn't used to the swing in temps here and my cheap heater couldn't keep up & I lost 2 of them. They are so small & I have no idea what sex they are so breeding if it happens seems so far away now. I have flake,freeze dried BW, Round Pellets I ground down. They don't eat in front of me which makes it hard to see if eating & they are extremely shy. I upgraded the aquarium to 20L. We will see. Thanks 👍 🤞

@@DiyRick66 so, they are interesting little fish but I have to sit still before they’ll come out and be active. I started seeing fry about 6-8 months after I got them…it became obvious the males vs females as they are considerably larger and a bit darker striping. The fry are clear but you’ll see the little blue bug eyes…they’re really cute. Mine like the “Bug Bites” for small cichlids - but I still have to mash up the granules a bit as they’re a bit large. I also feed them the frozen baby brine shrimp about 3-4 times a week. I just looked at my thermometer and have it set at 80. It’s an Eheim 50 watt and I have a backup one on hand - just in case. I think you’ll see frynwhen you least expect it…just use care if you use a siphon cleaner around the shells because they’re so tiny ….I use a Turkey baster to clean the area around the shells when needed. Good luck! They are cool little fish! I need to find a fish club near me to start selling my offspring too…I need to thin the herd by about 30!
