I love the two distinct vibes in this episode. You've got the "groups of folk who just enjoy the thing they are talking about" but every so often you slip into "old soldiers reminiscing about their time in the trenches". Love the podcast, keep em coming please.

The whole thing about making someone who is good at their job managers seems to be a thing, especially for incorporated(?)/companies listed on the stock market. But I also think it's a product of its time, that everyone is told they should strive to become some kind of boss. When a company I worked for got bought by a bigger listed company some 10 years ago and it was time for the yearly talk they showed the way forward. First I would get to manage like a smaller team, and so on and so on. I asked why I, gods humble gift to surveyors in heavy industry who had billed all but 8 hours the previous years (I took a day to clean out the car after 6 years in a project) should tell people what to do. Why I should do less of what I liked about my job and more of something I hated and would probably make someone cry in the process? I've seen it so much in construction the last 15 years, they take someone who is good at his job and make him do something he is bad at, downgrade all around. :D

Great discussion: but changing Lorgar, are you kidding me? He’s the instigator for the whole thing… If it had to be one, I’d say Magnus, since he isn’t evil to begin with, and they kind of opened that door already with the whole ‘shards’ thing. (his ‘good’ part is still in Revuel Arvida/Janus of the Grey Knights). The Angels already have that dynamic going with the good-bad half of their legion, so that’s not really that exciting. Plus Magnus is the only real contender (power wise) against the warp.
@MediocreHobbies Жыл бұрын
He is most certainly is not. His first captain on the other hand may have caused the whole dam thing. Lorgar is quite ashamed of how it all turned out. I think it could work.

@@MediocreHobbies Split the Empire by splitting the Emperor. On the one hand you have a stirring in the Warp, foreshadowed by visions and manifestations on Angels and living saints, the coming apotheosis of the Emperor as a Literal God. Triggering a Guilliman Heresy, as Roboute tries to save his father from one of his greatest fears, and an attempt to resurrect the enlightened secular Empire of the Great Crusade. Pitting the Ultramarines and all the mini-Ultramarines against the Sisters, Custodes and Black Templars in a siege of Terra, which is relieved by - Lorgar, at the head of the Ultramarines nemesis, the Word Bearers, who are finally vindicated in their beliefs that Faith was needed to unite and defend Humanity, and the fact that the Emperor was indeed a God all along. The Empire breaks into factions, those who believe the God-Emperor is risen following Lorgar, those who believe it is merely a new Chaos God in the guise of the Emperor, who must be cast down and the real Emperor contacted in the Warp who follow Guilliman. Those who believe the Emperors has died and search for his reincarnation amongst the Sensei, or who fight these usurpers and false prophets. Those too busy dealing with the Chaos forces invading to take advantage of the Chaos, and to punish Lorgar for his treachery. Half the battles we play are Imperial Marines versus Imperial Marines anyway, might as well create a lore justification for two armies in powered armour fighting each other and shouting "for the Emperor!"
@larsickenroth7169 Жыл бұрын
@@MediocreHobbies Are you sure about that? While Kor Phaeron and Erebus’s efforts were indeed important, Lorgar’s constant need for a ‘higher purpose’ and tendency to zealotry pop up in every one of his phases; whether that would be ‘cleansing Colchis’, Eldar civilizations or proclaiming the ‘primordial truth’ (again directly referencing the figure of Urizen from William Blake’s literature, who is a tyrant that writes down his opinionated ‘laws of the universe’ while measuring it and judging all). Somehow, by nature or through his upbringing, Lorgar always manages to become the stalking-super-fan. Why he was even allowed to apply the ‘Word Bearers’ name to his army is truly beyond me. Since it stems directly from Kor Phaeron as well. Similar to his Blakeian namesake, Lorgar is a creature that constantly believes he is doing the right thing, even when blatantly told otherwise by his creator, brothers and subjects. Caricaturing darkest parts of concepts like ‘blind faith’ and ‘religion’ as entirely problematic solutions that quickly get out of hand. Brought on by - what can essentially be reduced to - a lack of self-worth. Kor Phaeron recognizes this extreme case of neediness early on, and capitalizes on it - being the predator that he is. Perhaps - when in an extremely generous mood - one could argue Lorgar did one good deed in writing the ‘Lectitio Divinitatus. But even that is highly questionable, since it is also the very thing the Chaos gods could rightfully point towards and say ‘see, the Emperor is just the next Chaos God to join the pantheon’ as he would be drawing power from the faith of his human subjects as well. Keeping in mind that most all of Lorgar’s ‘insights’ and knowledge come from Chaos influences. And then we haven’t even discussed his participation in the drop-site massacre, and his active field-trips traveling the warp, just to see what he might gain from it, ultimately stumbling into the hands of the Kairos-Fateweaver. When I set this against Magnus - who would be my choice - he is the one that: 1. Is not overly fond of destroying or subjugating civilizations different from himself, but wants to learn from them. 2. Is the only figure - next to the Emperor and the Sigillite - able to power/control the Golden Throne. 3. Is attacked by Russ, only because Horus manipulated the situation, and wasn’t actually banished by the emperor at that point 4. Has a general goal of wanting to learn and see more, but not at all cost. 5. Only breaks the Emperor’s seals in order to warn him. 6. Sacrifices everything to save his sons, but is never of vile or destructive intent. 7. Has these unique sons that are quite aware of both the positive and negative sides of existence and the warp 8. Only flees to the Planet of Sorcerers to establish his own little part of the Matrix to survive. Etc. Which redeeming qualities do you see in Lorgar?

The thing with Bad Squiddo wasn't that she was under attack or being critisized, it was that the "80's style" bare skin and 90's edgier image comic style women have been nearly entirely phased out of everything and here's another example of modesty being held up as something special. She's incidental, not a cause. That being said, she does good work and isn't preachy at all, she seems like a lovely person who's into what she's doing and wants to put out there in the world without being pushy or annoying, in my opinion a stellar example of what someone should be like. Painting Phase tends to be defensive when they get non-positive comments and hear them read up in an angry or annoyed voice when that's not the intent. It's entirely natural, you just have to remind yourself to be charitable towards others when reading their opinions.

I understand and agree with what your saying. And as content creators it’s hard to not get a little defensive. You need th be so careful these days. I appreciate your comment.
