Dave i was told that when going with 4 wheel disc, the master cylinder has to be equally portioned. the oem master the front portion is larger to handle disc brakes. the rear portion is smaller for the drum.
@jimdrechsel36112 жыл бұрын
Dave, a lot of great instruction. The master cylinder doesn't have to be changed? The metering blocks are still the same? I know someone who can't get his conversion to work right. No braking power. He has changed everything but the master cylinder and the metering blocks. Any thoughts?

Good video, does the axle have a step on it so when you install the bearing that it stops in a certain spot?
@DavidReaDBRestorations3 ай бұрын
The bearing has a snap ring that catches the flange that only allows the bearing to go in so far in the housing.

How are them "new-school" green bearings holding up? Heard nothing bad bad things about them (quick wear, full failures, rides only on a small part of the bearing versus the full tapered ones, etc.) Originals have lasted 50+ years, so not sure why everyone converts to them? Is it just an availability thing?

Hey Dave.....i know this is an video BUT its still valuable! I used the same kit and mine was bought theu POL. Everything bolted up the exact same way HOWEVER did you have a problem getting the driver side parking brake cable snapping in at both ends??? I replaced mine because they were all rusty and the new one was the same length that they all are...35" or so but the cable casing isnt long enough to clip in on both ends. I thinks because the caliper is mounted on the trailer side of the diff. I had enough play on the passenger side to make it work. Why cant I get my regular length cable to snap in?

Dave, I have the original Bendix 4 piston caliper on my 67 Charger front wheels. I want to know if I can buy a pair of brake calipers and rotors that will work with my bendix booster and master cylinder? Let me know if that it possible. Thank you.
@DavidReaDBRestorations3 жыл бұрын
Are you looking to upgrade to a multi piston caliper and big rotor Willwood type setup, or just upgrade to a Mopar single piston later model setup?
@deanprevolos553 жыл бұрын
I'm not looking to upgrade , i'm asking if it is possible to just buy a rotor and caliper for my existing set up which is original to the car?

Hey Dave, I tried installing this kit on my Dart today. Are the brake pads suppose to be sort of "floating" in the caliper? I've never done disc before. It looked and sounded like yours were rubbing too. My pads are touching the rotor a tad bit. I thought this was wrong and took them off. Does it continue to stay like that or does it get worked out at some point? I can't understand why the pads would rub.
@DavidReaDBRestorations9 ай бұрын
Yes, they will float in the caliper and drag on the rotor, not to the point where they are applying pressure but they will drag to keep the rotor clean and prevent debris from getting in between the rotor and pad.

I have a question related to the axle flange to tube mating, my flange is not fully contacting the rear end tube because of the snap ring on the bearing, I have a gap ( the thickness of snapring) is that normal?...Thanx.

When running disc front and disc back on a 1968 Charger do you have to change anything with the brake line set up or can you still just run the proportioning valve and metering valve?
@DavidReaDBRestorations Жыл бұрын
You can keep your existing brake line set up.
@tcpeshek Жыл бұрын
@@DavidReaDBRestorations I did some checking and I guess it's a distribution block and a hold off valve. I'll leave everything like it is and see what happens. Thanks Dave.

I am failing to understand why you stated in part one that the std. bearings wont seal with disk brakes? "Green-Bearings" are a huge down-grade in my opinion.
@wheelieking714 жыл бұрын
@John Johnson I still don't understand the "wont seal with disk brakes" statement. And, I will still take a good ole' tapered roller bearing over a ball bearing any day. No matter what generation. Ball bearings were never meant to handle side-loads. Physics has not changed.
@moparnut62864 жыл бұрын
@@wheelieking71 your are absolutely correct I am not comfortable with the green bearings in a heavy car like my 71 charger tapered bearings are superior to ball bearings especially in a car that you want to corner in aka side loading bearings, modern cars use ball bearings in their hubs and I have replaced a ton of them over the years.
