More great work John; thanks! In addition to your reasons for not buying an XKR - all of which I share - and admitted deeply embedded post-WWII-era Brit's frugality, I was influenced by the higher fuel consumption, not a trivial matter, especially if one likes to use the XK8(R) both as a grand tourer AND a fast car; the high cost of the 'R''s many special parts, including its suspension, and anything to do with the blower. The last supercharged car I had was a Pontiac Bonneville, for which the supercharger replacement cost was 2 grand. We parted company over that.

Don’t forget the rust on the rear chassis rails where they head upwards (or downwards depending which way you are looking I guess😊)

RE: EMISSIONS ISSUES -- If you get a "check engine" light and your code reader shows an "emissions" code, the 1st place I always check is to make sure the gas cap is tight and seated properly. About 10 years ago I actually replaced the gas cap on my wife's '03 XK8, and that solved the problem (and was quite inexpensive, as I recall).

Great one again, John! So much information - thanks for sharing your incredible knowledge! I have to say (again): the interior of your car is wonderful! The dark dash highlighted by the shiny chrome rings and the contrasting bright leather... simply gorgeous! 🤩 I love the black classic interior of mine, but the strong contrasts of the sport interior do look fabulous! ...but I see the dent in the bootlid seems to be still there... 🤕

Fabulous review even though I have a 2011 XKR. Keep them coming. John, I think to widen your audience base you should acquire an XK or XKR 150 series. Then your family will be complete.🤭👍

While you may spot the rust susceptible areas ; what could be the DIY solution to stop the corrosion ? How is it conceivable that Jaguar would allow fixings of aluminum body panels to mild steel without using stainless steel and bi-metal separation ?

Hi John, terrific video. Thank you. I have a 2002 coupe and have recently had a second-hand gearbox fitted. There has now developed a noticeable clunk when the box changes down from 5th to 4th and 3rd which I can’t remember being present previously. Any ideas as to possible causes? Many thanks

Hi John. Having a problem with my 1998 XJ 3.2 V8. When full lock is applied the revs drop and engine stalls. I have a new battery so voltage good topped up ATF steering fluid. Is there a idle adjustment screw that you have knowledge of so I can increase the revs only needs maybe 75-100 rpm increase, only stalls on full lock to lock whilst trying to park up. Any help would be great. Thanks James.
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage Жыл бұрын
Maybe needs its power steering system flushing out. I think you need a good OBD2 scanner with 2 way coms to restet the idle on an x308 (full fly by wire throttle. Try cleaning the MAF (typically raises RPM by about 300 rPM

Great video! Thanks, John! Unfortunately for me I tried starting the car with a 4amp trickle charger connected to the terminals under the bonnet and now electricity is gone. Do you have any suggestions where to start diagnosing, what fuse or relay, or should I check them all and take it from there?
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage Жыл бұрын
All is unfortunately your only sure method, but start with underbonnet fuses and relays.

H clive. questions asked right here via comments (as with your message and this reply) tend to get the quickest response as they can be seen by, and therefore may help, all our fellow subscribers. Feel free to email me, (. john@tothegarage.co.uk. ). but i get hundreds of emails a day so individual responses generally take me much longer.
