I had so many questions I've been repeatedly asked about my video on the 100,000 mile eNV200 verses the NV200 diesel van , so here i answer the main ones !

I have a leaf 24kwh and two diesel cars, I agree with your figures and having driven many types of cars for hundreds of thousands of miles over 35 years and now 30,000 electric miles, I will NEVER buy another petrol/diesel car. Electric is just better. As long as you match your battery and charge rate to your use case,, Keep up the good work,

Some other bonus topic you don’t talk about. The time you can claim back from the fuel station refuelling as it at home takes seconds to plug in or unplug. The vans always heated up no ice or condensation on windscreen and side doors This is my own happy moments that I didn’t even think of

DPD are running several ENV200 40kw vans here in Cornwall. They love them and they do not need to recharge during a days shift either. 80-100 is apparently a typical long day for them. I thought it would be more than that.

That’s great that DPD are doing that where you are, they’re still on dirty ol’ diesel here. If you ever get anything delivered by DPD, you not only get to see a photo and first name of your driver, you get to virtually stalk them on the way to you too. I should imagine that many places in Cornwall are a little bit more spread out than elsewhere, but in my small corner of Kent, the driver can be darting around an area that’s just a few square miles for 4+ hours. And of course that’s not at motorway speeds, which would hurt the range. So one charge lasting all day sounds right.

Great videos Jonathan. It would be interesting to do one on companies offering to do battery upgrades. I guess this will take off (and be easier to report on) once the impacts of the virus recede. It would be great to have a good UK based company doing this, as the hassle and cost of driving to Holland is going to increase after the end of transition.

I second this; you say Jonathan that there's a load of companies doing this - can you give us the names of a couple please as I only know of Muxsan in the Netherlands? I know Cleevely Motors are doing the Leafs but when I asked about the ENV they've told me they can't do a 24-to-40 as they can't get hold of the 40 batteries. Thanks a bunch.

Hi I have had a NV200 from new now covered 5680 miles since mid March this year I ntend to keep it 7 yrs till I retire my average mileage is always from my daily home charge I sold my transit for this and my yearly cost on maintenance and fuel cost me last year £184 less than I pay for its replacement which is a warranty covered new fantastic van I bought it on those terms only and reviews. Ordered it by phone from Bristol st Sheffield and they transported to Swindon . Drives better than my Tiguan sport auto and also smoother trans fer of power than my SL Mercedes with no noise . If you want to dis them with out trying then do so I took a gamble and am 100% happy. Ps I’ve only ever bought one new vehicle and it was a work van that is the sad point . Great reviews just stumbled across them The last items I had replaced on the transit were two injectors by the way

That share price would be rubbish if that particular EV maker hadn't gone into 'partnership' with several legacy auto makers - not producing any EV's at all! Steve Simkins sorry but you’re wrong. The resale value of EVs is way better than ICE vehicles. And why shouldn’t if be? There is less to go wrong. One of the big selling points of EVs is reliability. And check the replacement costs of DPFs, clutches, etc or the repair bill for a broken cambelt/timing chain. The uncertainty is all with the ICE power unit and all the associated parts

I quite like the Zoe battery lease scheme, because it gives us less wealthy people a chance at EV ownership of a 2nd or 3rd hand car! Reviewers keep talking about the other makers' "8 year warranty" on the battery. What happens in 13 years time when said battery has lost up to 39% of its capacity (EVM's Leaf had lost about 2-3% per year over 4 years - although this may have been down to the poor thermal management issue). Many of my friends are driving around in 15 Yr old cars after purchasing them at 7 or 8 yrs old and my 15 Yr old Golf was bought at 3 yrs old! We could buy a 22kwh Zoe and be assured that the battery will be replaced when it reaches its traction limit, no matter how old it is. I think they're about £5k at the moment plus the lease. I can't think of too many people who would want the hassle (not to mention the expense) of sending their 30kwh Leaf (or such) off to Holland or wherever! Come to think of it - there's probably a nice little earner sometime in the future, in buying old Zoe's on a battery lease, getting Renault to replace the battery for free, then selling it on with a brand new (perhaps bigger) battery - all be it many years old!

Only thing left to highlight is the relative current values of a 100k diesel versus a 100k E-NV 200. And obviously you quoted list price for the diesel when it too would likely have been discounted. The E-NV will still come out well on top i wager?

You can get discounts on the new electric and the diesel vans. New today you can get a new 40 kWh Acenta Van Auto for £18,999+ VAT vs a new nv200 1.5 dCi Tekna Van for £14,999, its still a saving of £8-11k. I know the electric van is not a tekna model but there is not much of a Equipment difference between the electric Acenta model and the Diesel tekna (only a reversing camera but some areas like the climate control and steering wheel its better on the electric ) www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/new/201905157977996?postcode=sy109pu&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&sort=year-desc&fuel-type=Electric&advertising-location=at_vans&radius=1500&page=1 www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/new/202007030799456?postcode=sy109pu&year-from=new&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&model=NV200&sort=year-desc&advertising-location=at_vans&radius=1500&make=NISSAN&year-to=new&page=1

Hi signed up for your channel on your original video. Had to smile though on your comment about how much cheaper you sold the eNV200 and how no one ever pays MSP yet had no problem with going with the MSP on the diesel:) I would prefer to see a video done from a companies comparison where they buy two identical vehicles like I did with my petrol/diesel and keep track of all costs then compare. As I said in my other post the diesel pick-up on a yearly basis for fuel only considerable cheaper. At the end of four years when traded and calculated in all cost that gap shortened considerably and was not at all the savings I was led to believe by others. No one knows when all the incentives for owning electric vehicles are going to come to an end but one of these days as more people purchase and suddenly the powers that be realise the fuel tax revenue has all but dried up you are going to see taxes added to the electrics to where the cost saving is going to be greatly reduced. Lot of comments on how environmental impact is reduced. How is most of your electricity produces? Where I live it is all hydro but if you live where most of the power going into your grid is coal or gas fired plants how clean is the electricity? Maybe for short daily trips one can charge through solar I am not sure where I live in B.C. that would be an option. In my home community no one that I knows can run their homes year round on solar. They all end up buying some from Hydro and they aren't trying to charge an electric vehicle. And the solar set-up was considerable. Will see if I can find the video but there was a fellow in central Canada that during last winters cold snap it cost more to operate his electric car than a petrol. Few factors here to consider. Bought car before he found out he could not install a charging station in his complex so had to go to commercial outlets. Electricity at charging station considerably higher than he would of paid if charging at home. There was also a problem with the tyres installed. Can't remember what it was maybe he couldn't get snow tires in the size used on the car. Anyway he liked the car and would not go back to a ICE just pointed out that it was not always going to be cheaper. Don't think you English fellows have to put up with -35C. He appreciated he could pre-head the car while in the underground parking and same at work.

Just one of your points , have you considered how much electricty is needed to make petrol / diesel fuels , its around 4.1 kWhs per 1 gallon , so not only tailpipe emissions, but electric used too. The grid here in uk is getting cleaner too. Here on orkney since 2013 over 110% of all electricity is from renewables , wind , tidal , and solar. Yes we make too much !
@mrsneeklamy
@mrsneeklamy 4 жыл бұрын
@@JonathanPorterfield Do you have any good sources for the 4.1 kWh electricity per 1 gallon of petrol and diesel? When Robert Llewellyn brought this up on a Fully Charged video last year I tried to look it up, it wasn’t easy and I didn’t really find a definitive answer. But I found that much of the energy used in refineries are _byproducts_ of the complex processes involved in refining crude oil. _“…it takes about 6 kwh of energy to refine a gallon of gasoline, not 6 kwh of electricity, as I originally stated. Now, some of the energy inputs that a refinery uses (such as natural gas) could be used to generate electricity instead if we shifted away from regular cars to electric cars. But even in that case you wouldn’t get a full 6 kwh of electricity - probably less than half that. (Note, however, that you still need additional energy to extract and transport the gasoline.)”_ - Brad Plumer at The Washington Post www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/do-regular-cars-use-more-electricity-than-electric-cars/2011/10/17/gIQAiF67rL_blog.html Wayback Machine archive to get around WP paywall: web.archive.org/web/20190927134326/www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/do-regular-cars-use-more-electricity-than-electric-cars/2011/10/17/gIQAiF67rL_blog.html And a lot more detail in this post on LinkedIn which I won’t even pretend to understand! _“Clearly, the amount of electricity used in refining and distributing gasoline is not insignificant, but nowhere nearly as high as Mr. Musk claimed.”_ - Paul Martin Chemical process development expert, and EV and renewable energy advocate www.linkedin.com/pulse/so-exactly-how-much-electricity-does-take-produce-gallon-paul-martin

let me state i think electric is the way forward and all being equal i would have electric. but the review is biased. the list price you quote is not the "average" price they are being sold for. electric is still more expensive than ICE. the goverment are subsidising the purchase price, the road tax and allowing you to run these without paying duty on fuel. so at the moment the review are not fair. how much would the diesel van be with 10 miles on it?

you were most definitely very biased against the diesel, yes they do suffer from the faults that you mentioned but usually as a matter of neglect, at 100,000 miles you would have to be very unlucky to of had all of those major faults happen, the fact you also picked on all of the most expensive repairs that would be needed, there is no way that nissan are only going to charge £60 for a service and mot either, most dealers will charge £55 for a mot on it's own plus you would be looking at another hours labour at around £70 as a minimum, then plus any extras like fluid changes battery safety checks ect. also you mentioned to get a overnight electricity tariff, and then worked out the cost over 100,000 Mile's from that, one thing that you didn't take into account was that these tariffs are only around 5 hours in the early morning, after having a env 200 for a week I can tell you that from empty your looking at 13 hours to charge from a standard plug I never once managed to fully charge the van that I had for a week, so for around 8 of the hours that would be needed to fully charge you would be out of the discount tariff unless of course you had a fast charge which is a extra cost, around £1000 to have installed? I really dont know. if you do get the van fully charged your range of 80 miles soon drops by 20 miles the second that you need to turn the heater on to demist the windscreen. I have also had a peugeot partner electric van which was equally as poor when it came to range and nearly left me stranded on a journey that I wouldn't even of had second thoughts about in a diesel, think it was 31 miles each way but once I arrived to the location it was only showing 29 Miles's of range left, this was a brand new Peugeot demonstration van.
