The bend on that chain plate you had straightened is witness to a great force.

Buying a donor boat is definitely the way to go. Those Amel boats have many unique parts that are no longer in production, I hope you pulled as many spare parts as possible from the donor boat.

I did get a few spares, but sold the vessel off and could not start taking too many parts off it. The boat would be worthless if I took too many of the parts off of it....

Well done Ken. I know how never ending this must have felt. The question is, can anything be done to ensure this never happens again.

That woman that won the round the world race on the Cape George 36 uses a preventer on the mainsail. She uses twin foresails and two spinniker poles to hold the foresails when she is runnng downwind. Securing the sails might help prevent mast failure. Good video - thanks.

Good afternoon..Sir Good job. Good luck... 📌But luck only smiles on prepared minds. I see that from the first moment you knew that the masts and rigging were going to fall, YOUR MIND BEGAN TO PREPARE. The previous sentence is valid. 👍

Sounds like you have done a great job orgainizing a good crew to do the repair work. In the US it is hard to find good workers. Look forward to more sailing.

Hard to find good workers everywhere. But, Power Boats has good people, just have to find them at the right time.

Actually it's easy to get great workers in the US. They get paid a lot more, in the US we cover insurance, retirement, workers comp, social security. It's easy to find the best and highest skilled workers in the US in literally every field, but cheap asses don't like to pay for good work. Not throwing sand at the channel..... he found a good outfit, and he was still bitching about price. I tell those customers to go find a handyman.

@@SailingAquarius It's the other way around, it's hard to find good customers who respect quality work. When a customer starts bitching about an estimate I send them packing. If a customer starts bitching midway through a job I put in the time to listen to the bitching. I bill in 15 minute increments, so 31 minutes of bitching is 45 minutes in my pocket. You've done a lot of things right, you've also skimped on a lot. You should have mounted your HF on an extension above the light fixture too, unless you had tested the fixture for HF issues. There are really nice antenna extensions that woulda got you a foot or more away from that potentially noisy fixture. Hey np though, you can climb up there and fix your oversight later if it's a problem, that'll be fun. Good job on cheerleading the greaser. You shoulda got down and done it yourself because it still wasn't enough. Go figure. It should have been drooling handfuls, literally running back into the bucket while filling the entire cavity. That'd be fun to have to do it on deck some day when it seizes up.

so good to see your progress! Am still .... dead curious to learn what, in the end of the day, caused this and how it exactly happened in detail..... - but take your time. Wish you simply alll the luck further on!✌

Will the insurance reimburse you for all your project management and electrical work getting Aquarius put back together? Seems like you should be earning top dollar!

I was difficult to see your mast damage in the video as someone was obstructing the camera. It would be nice to know exactly where on the mast the break'occurrd. Was it where the poles are mounted or lower?

I don't know if you'd been giving those guys crap, but honestly they work exactly like we do at my company. Sometimes you need a few parts, or some thinking time and you pull off one job for another. Or you pull off for another more pressing need. It happens, but when you're paying by the hour there's nothing lost in terms of job cost. Time and materials is how I work in my company, and it's fair for everybody. I never say I'll be done on day X, if it takes 3 days, it take 3 days. If I need to think about a job or gather up some materials, it'll take longer and I'll do another job for a day. If a customer wants to pay for expedite, I can do that and it's very expensive because I include a large heartburn fee. Heartburn fee is the time I have to waste sitting with a customer who thinks my time should be free.
