I've been cooking! The little oven is working like a charm. This day, it was about 10 degrees cooler than than in Part 1, BUT the oven got 45 degrees hotter. YAY! I will show you how I modified it.

Hi Donna. That is so cool. I love projects like this. Last season I sundried my tomatoes in my greenhouse and it worked a treat! As we are now heading into winter I will have to wait a wee while before I can try your cool oven! Have fun experimenting. Cheers Sarah : o )

Great work! I wondered if you laid the potatoes in first would that have made a difference in texture. Also, glad the chicken was not dry this time. Butter works everytime. A nice fleshy fish would be great in there I bet. I want to try this. Thanks!

Pea Gravel in the bottom up to the level you choose would allow you to set the pan level as the gravel would level out easily when you have to change the angle.

It all looks good except the chicken. The first one you called dry and I would say perfect. I could not have eaten the second chicken. All just a matter of personal taste. Just discovered these videos and they are very good. Thanks for posting them.

Rainbow Gardens Haha, I was thinking of tilapia with butter/salt/lemon basil for an hour and just taking a break outside while it cooked. The worst part would be getting up to flip it half way through but I can deal with that. I'd love to try it.

You can do that. The difference, though, is to not retain the steam. Leave it so steam escapes.

I would like to know how warm the out side of the pot gets , I bet it would be worth putting insulation around it . I wonder how hard it will be too take her to 350 ? How large is the pot please . I have too huge ones and I am thinking about giving it a go , but I will have to plant my tomatoes some place else.😩 Since the pot I have is so huge I might try to put a pot inside a pot and pearllite in between and cement the top to seal water out to make it insulated, Being so hevy I will have to weld up a hevy duty articulated swiveling base . Then I bet I could hit 350 .🤔 I've seen these made from a styrofoam ice chest and other things, but even know the food is covered I'm kinda afraid of plastics out gassing , the terracotta seems to be more of an "organic" solution.

This might be a super basic question...but how does it not burst into flames? Is mylar fire resistant?
@RainbowGardens
@RainbowGardens 10 жыл бұрын
It is fire resistant to a certain point, I think close to 400°F. I am using it mostly for it's reflective quality, and not to direct heat to a certain point, like a fresnel lens or a magnifying glass, which do cause fires. Mylar is sometimes used to cook food too. If I want to use it permanently, I will upgrade the poster board to something more durable (it warps with the humidity from the cooking/steam). I would also look for a better sheet of Mylar which stays flat against the board (it will reflect better that way), confirm the thickness of the sheet and make sure it is specifically made not to shrink when exposed to a certain heat (I think some Mylar shrinks at certain temps). So far, it's for fun and I am enjoying it. :))
