Another Christmas away from home...I feel badly for yall and for your families too, always seeming to be at sea, during the holidays like this. I think when yall were headed to shore in the small boat, that has to be the calmest I've seen the North Seas yet, in any of your videos yet. Yall always do an amazing job and I love your videos too...I'm glad too that yall keep your sense of humor on board too!! Having to live on board for so long at a time and being in such rough seas, humor definitely has to help. I love it that yall always put up a Christmas tree too...helps with the festive mood somewhat at least, especially with yall away from you families this time of year. They're talking about yall on that program...haha Nerves of steel on that little boat...bad enough on the big ship...Come home safe guys...prayers for all of yall and hope the holidays were at least some fun for yall together out at sea.🚢⚓🙏💖Your wife sure does love you and knows what you love too...I love the hat!! Awe, yall are so cute, sharing the holidays together and having all the gifts everyone sent out to yall too...glad yall at least had one another to spend Christmas with. God Speed Who's dog? Now, that would make my Christmas right there, having a dog on board and I love border collies!!🎄🎋🎍💌🐕

Hello, Janet. Sorry for the late reply. Only just managing to get through the backlog. Always makes us laugh when we are working away for Christmas and someone wishes us Happy Holiday. It’s not something we say over here especially when we are at work and not on holiday 😂 Should be home for it this year though. Home with the wife, girl and dogs. ( my border collies). Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I noticed that working off-shore now safety is paramount compared to when I worked off-shore 40 years ago. Men got killed all the time ....on the Alaska Star the driller crowned the traveling block and it came crashing down on the drill floor killing the lead tong guy and metal flying just about took off the arm of the other floor hand. They ran that drillers ass off the rig but the damage had been done. Took 6 weeks to get up going again and I worked 62 days in a row and got a nice paycheck! I was lucy that day I was just a roustabout back then and was down on a boat unloading drilling mud when it happened. Then when i was on another rig in the GOM the cable on the tongs snapped and the tongs hit the guy in the head crushing his head killing him instantly .....it happened on another tower so i didn't see just heard the next day. Back in Alaska I had climbed on the mud tanks and slipped on some ice and was kinda dangling off the side if I let go its hello Gulf of Alaska and I would be dead before anybody could get to me. Luckley the mud engineer saw it and a few guys helped me get off the tanks. After that I thought there has to be a better job than this crap.

Gregg H A lot has changed in the North Sea since the early days. I run a Facebook page called Life at Sea on an ERRV where I post several photos a day depicting our daily lives. A lot of these feature abseilers & scaffs in the platform we work with. Last trip someone asked me why the scaffs, who were clipped on, were wearing life jackets? Pretty obvious really but he couldn’t understand how, if they were clipped on, they could end up in the water? It never occurred to him that the photo had been taken from the Daughter Craft that was also in attendance just in case. Yes, safety is paramount in the North Sea. Piper Alpha changed a lot. I was surprised to see Deepwater Horizon didn’t have an ERRV in attendance. There are over 200 oil & gas platforms in the North Sea and there must be an ERRV within 5 miles of each one of them.

Supervideo, and I see my home town of Lerwick ;) When a storm is blowing down from the deep North Atlantic is the swell much bigger than from a southerly direction?. It would be good to see some footage of the supply ships during a storm but perhaps filming is difficult.
@Bigwavemaster16 жыл бұрын
The swell from the North does tend to be bigger than from the South but the West is the worst. A storm is far too rough for supply ships to be out in. They cannot work in these conditions so they head for shelter.
@Trollberg60north6 жыл бұрын
@@Bigwavemaster1 Ah, yeh, I forgot that you maybe work west of Shetland too but I did think that would be worse. I see from sea maps that there are some very deep areas WoS. I read a comment on Facebook from a PSV captain that "there's no such thing as a calm day west of Shetland" lol.
