Love the videos, not a safety nerd, but as a firefighter I have responded to calls with guys using circular saw blades (4krpm) in angle grinders (12-20k rpms.) I would recommend dialing the rpms down a bit with a rheostat switch to something closer to 6000 rpms. One minor twerk of the cheaper blades usually doesn't end well for the user. Keep up the great videos, learning a ton.
@MrMalarix8 жыл бұрын
the lower rpm don't make anny diference if not worst, but a fine tooth blade rather than a ripping blade works better, but still to dangerous, I stoped using some time ago when a tooth broke and flow into my arm, nothing serious but for me it was not worth it annyway best channel ever
@DBYNOE8 жыл бұрын
+Alexandru Alanei The reason for the slower rpm is that a blades max rpm isn't just a suggestion, particularly with brased on teeth, doubling or tripling it will cause huge increases in centrifical force, it may even be proportional to the square of the rpm, I'd need to check an old physics book to be sure. You were lucky it landed in your arm.
@mwhelan538 жыл бұрын
you might want to look up the difference between centripital and centrifugal force whilst you're at it. Centrifical force is a figment of your ignorance

@Michael Randolf I don't think I've ever used talk-to-type for anything but Google search. It can't even get my search inquiry correct, so I've gone back to strictly typing. Even at that, auto-correct is my worst enema.

Just curious have you tried a ocilating cutter like they use for cutting casts? They don't have a spinning blade, just wondering.
@Skyrmir7 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering if you've tried an oscillating tool to do similar types of cuts? They're not usually good for that long of a cut, but they're very easy to control and allow for a reasonably straight plunging cut. Plus they have the advantage of not risking major bodily harm if your hand happens to slip.

Love your videos, I have been an amateur boat builder/restorer/sailer, since I was 14 yrs old. iam am now 63 yrs old. You are a brave and skilled craftsman to use a saw blade in a grinder. I would not recommend it for just anyone, but iI plan on trying it myself. Gary SV "Paladin".
@aserta10 жыл бұрын
It is a dangerous practice but it's not really that uncommon. There's even a cutting wheel that has chain saw around the edge that's used in carving wood. Tho i would probably like to have a handle on that to use one myself.
@highwatercircutrider9 жыл бұрын
Have you tried the "new" vibratory type cutter/sander tools? My brother introduced me to his last year. We were working together building a custom library complete with a hidden "book shelf door". I was really impressed with it's speed and accuracy.
@aserta8 жыл бұрын
+highwatercircutrider Belated answer. Yup, i have. Amazing little tool. I really wish someone would make a big brother to the usual hand sized tool, because it would be perfect to cut big timber notches. I actually took a MX30E from Bosch and modified a blade for extra depth. It's not perfect but it allows me to reach really deep in a piece of timber and make joints that otherwise i'd have to work at chip by chip. That aside, it's one of the most impressive tools that came out of the medicine world, i remember some 14 years or so when i had a cast and the doctor pulled out this ghastly looking saw blade and i was terrified it would slice right in to me. :) Only for him to hold it against his hand to reassure me. Cheers.

1:17 you said there's no other tool that could cut that line but you've probably never used a "multi tool" the original was called the multimaster if you go to Harbor Freight they have an exact copy for like 20 bucks you need to buy one and try it you'd be amazed at the things you can do with that tool. Furthermore you can make your own blades for it I've even used a pizza cutting wheel for super Sharp Cuts it's amazing scraper sander grinder cutter Etc

I love the fact that he will do anything to get the job done. His "Deathsaw 4000" separates the men from the boys. I have been a framer of houses and a cabinetmaker for 40 years and have done many dangerous things to get the job done. Still have all my fingers and still have memory of all the knowledge acquired from doing the work. my hats off to him for his boat building skills. I too have used the tape trick when the line can't be read, been doing it for over 30 years or so on some formicas that don't take to pencil too well.

@@IDJEGOI the way i always stop a runawsy skill saw is to simply dont letbit get away from you !!!firm grip hold the blade in the wood your cutting and release tje trigger.the key is you cant be afraid of it. Toothed oversize circular saw blade in a high-speed angle grinder with homemade guard, no second handle, and no safety gear of any kind...what could possibly go wrong? Fine for Lou, but unless you share his skills, check out some of the angle grinder accident videos on youtube before trying this.
