Thanks so much for your awesome videos! I had zero experience working on engines or motors before this but after watching your videos, I was able to clean out the very gummed up carburetor of my Honda Ex 650 generator that was idle for about 25 years and would not start... and now it runs great! I would never have known about main jets or that cute little needle valve with the tiny button because they just all looked like random screws with a pasty sediment to me. Fuel lines were fine on my unit. I would never have been able to fix the carburetor without your help... thank you so much!

This one had been sitting around for 22 years. It's only the bad weather we are having that made me remember I had it. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Just a quick question, will the engine go on unleaded fuel or is it to be leaded only ?
@rasch86188 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, thank you for sharing and the good explanations. I could use some of the shown. I have the same problem with the air filter. What did you take as replacement? I was unable to find any spare parts on the internet. Thank you
@retrorestore8 жыл бұрын
I used a thin bit of kitchen sponge. It's basically a kitchen scourer pad. Cheers Martin

I seen when you took off the Carb bowl you removed the jet on the side but didn't, see you remove the center jet in the center , you have to look down inside that tube to see in , its brass and feeds fuel into the Carb, I have a us model. , just a tip but remove the head and clean the carbon out of the combustion chamber it can make the fuel pre - fire and make and make for bad idle with and without load ' the carbon will keep the combustion chamber too hot and not let the heat escape Thur the aluminum head.

Hot water and white spirit normally but recently, I've been adding a splash of thinners as it tends to cut through the lacquer build up in carbs. Cheers Martin
@tigermoth31949 жыл бұрын
Good 3 parter, Martin. Ive been thinking about purchasing an Ultrasonic cleaner for a while. Yours did a great job of cleaning that carb up. Do you use any other cleaning agent apart from white spirit?. Cheers, Mark.
@retrorestore9 жыл бұрын
I have used paint thinners as well with the hot water. It's a great tool for cleaning things that are delicate and inaccessable. Cheers Martin

Martin, Good vid series on this unit. What do you use in your ultrasonic for a cleaning solution. Cheers from South Florida. Jim
@retrorestore8 жыл бұрын
HI Jim, I use some paint thinners about half a cup in hot water boiled from the kettle. The thinners does a good job. Cheers Martin
@Jim-ie6uf8 жыл бұрын
+retrorestore I have mineral spirits, how do you keep them from separating. I'm using a heated ultrasonic so I won't be heating beforehand. Your solution does work very well by judging the pictures. Thanks Jim

I have the same generator, it's just not running right it's running but seems to be just at half chat it doesn't run strong anymore and hardly puts any power out, Iv cleaned the carb and checked to valves for carbon deposit, all clean now and still running poor. do you have any thoughts on what It could be ?
@retrorestore8 жыл бұрын
+Dean Goundry It sounds like fuel starvation. Carb or fuel supply valve as in the video. Cheers Martin
@deangoundry8 жыл бұрын
+retrorestore thanks for the reply, I stripped the petrol tap down yesterday and give it a good clean made sure the petrol was running free, put it all back together again and still the same, am beginning to think it's electrical, what's your thoughts? ps thanks for the help much appreciated.
@retrorestore8 жыл бұрын
Dean Goundry It's very hard for me to say without actually seeing it bud.Basically, if it's got a good spark and good fuel supply and the choke is not stuck on, it will run fine with good compression.. Sorry I can't be more specific.
@deangoundry8 жыл бұрын
+retrorestore now you've said that iv checked the spark plug and it doesn't look right it's a origon one probably throwing in by the previous owner, it's not putting out a brilliant spark to be honest iv ordered a new ngk one. soo soo stupid of me iv basically had the thing in bits and really should of checked that first.
@retrorestore8 жыл бұрын
Dean Goundry Let's hope that sort's it. Cheers Martin
