Funny...love the music! I would love to learn how to lower the gas flame on an oven, or turn it off as it heats up the whole house. Thanks for this video...so worth watching!!!

Hi there - I’ll be soon getting a 1940s Wedgewood and I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this video. I’ve always had the ridiculous issue of thinking (maybe more unconsciously) that this is more “man’s work,” but after watching this I feel like I could possibly take some of this on. I also really loved your choice in music. Old stoves remind me of my grandma in her kitchen, but mine listened exclusively to classical music so I began to really miss her as I listened to the music. The Tchaikovsky/Nutcracker reminded me of her making Xmas cookies. :) Thanks for the mesmerizing and educational vid!

Many thanks for the hint!!! The oven valve on our old Universal stove had just about given up the ghost, til you showed me in great detail how to pop the valve out to service it. Another 60 years hopefully!!!

Thanks for this! I got a tappan deluxe stove and the idea of doing this was kind of daunting. After seeing how it's done i'm confident I can do this myself! =) I'm hoping to restore that beautiful stove to it's former glory and put it in my 50s kitchen i'm doing.

Love your tutorials !! Thank you ! I have a 1950'ish dixie range, I have it hooked up to propane, my problem is the oven burner, it keeps burning yellow, tried blowing it out, vacuuming it , but still burns yellow, stove burners burn a beautiful blue! Is there an adjustment on there somewhere that I am just not seeing? Thank you

I have the same stove (6 burner version). One of the aluminum gas supply lines that feeds the left oven has a small break where it enters the connector to the left oven valve/thermostat. It appears to be about a half inch thick. Any idea where I can source the line with connectors. It’s about 1.5ft in length.

One of my burner tubes for my Wall gas double oven has an area that is corroded. I tried buying a replacement but was told its no longer available. I was wondering if I could use aluminum tape to cover the corroded area then with an sharp knife make the same shape cut out for the gas flame to ignite and burn. The corroded area is right at the gas igniter. I would clean the area then apply the tape which would be no wider then the damaged area 1/8-1/4 hole. Then cut through the tape for the flame to escape. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Time for another vintage washer!! Lol. I really want to rehab my 1980 filter-flo. Rubber smell on low speed and most spin cycles. Probably loose belt. Wish I was courageous enough to take it apart.

Hey, I know this was a long time ago, but I'm rebuilding my oven valve for a sweet little Wedgewood. I've removed the valve housing tomfix the pilot light valve, and it's all cleaned up! But the oven dial sticks a bit. I've ordered your grease (thank you!) And would love to grease up the oven valve too. (I've fixed the pilot light valve.) The dial side has no clear way to take it apart. There's a large hex part on the back side where the thermocouple comes out. I assume I take this off, but I don't want to start things leaking. Would you make a video on rebuilding the _oven valve_ since it looks quite different? Thank you for these videos - they've inspired me to rebuild this sweet little stove instead of replace it.

I bought a new whirlpool basic gas range a few year ago and long story short I ended up getting a 5 year Lowe’s warranty from another appliance that I sold (Samsung washer and dryer and replaced them with proper speed queens). Anyways I’ve had sticky burner knobs while the oven was on or if it had been on for a while. I had the gas valves replaced and now only a year or two later they’re getting sticky again when the oven is on. Any advice on the matter?

Hello, Thank you so much for your fantastic videos! I do have a question. I have a 1920's Tappan stove and when I light the oven with a match, I have to turn on our vent fan because when first lit it has an unpleasant order and not from dirt. It's as if the gas is either not regulated properly or something on a part from age, but not dirt or grease. Perhaps worn out? The smell goes away in a couple of minutes. Do you have any suggestions? Many thanks, Joel

Universal Marlboro, I greased it 10 years ago, one year ago, and did it today. Each time in response to a small gas leak in the valves. The weird thing, after greasing it this last time every single valve leaks 10 times more than what they ever did. I’m using valve cream. And a Klein ET 120 combustible gas leak detector to verify the leaks. I can smell the leaks as soon as I turn the main gas valve to the stove on. It’s simple to work on. I did one valve at a time and replaced them exactly as they were, I have no clue what I did or if it’s the valve cream it’s that antique stove valve cream that’s on the Internet with the hot chick on the advertisement. Could I have over greased it and caused a leak? If anyone has an idea let me know. Thank you.
@kevinwhite2955 Жыл бұрын
I cleaned off the valves and put back in to reduces the amount of grease, it is only a light film now. It still leaks on all valves. This stove went from a minor leak on all valves to crazy leak. Not enough to ignite, but enough to smell and set my hand held detector off into a frenzy.

Hi again dont know if you forgot me, with the roper stove built in 1958-60, so now my oven will not fire up. All of my gas pilot lights burn Natural Gas, for recall purpose I can light my top burners with a match, but prefer not too. Would really like to turn knob and to have flame, in additions now my oven will not fire up, I am use to hearing the gas come thru now I here nothing. Your experience and knowledge would be greatly appreciated. No maintenance or parts have ever been replaced.. It a great stove that needs some love. and yes your quality was better. I can send photos to aid in this process if need be. thank you in advance also im in ct if you know of an competent roper mechanics you could put me in contact with , my best...

Question! A friend’s giving me her ‘40s Wedgewood gas stove but like so many that haven’t been restored (although this one is used daily and works fine), it has what looks like rust all down the inside of the back. Are there any safety risks from this and is there anything that can be done about it? Do the backs of these stoves come off easily enough even if there is a way to remove rust? Or maybe there is no back... but I remember seeing it when I looked down the inside from above. Thanks!
