How did you attach Ethernet bundle to the wood rafters, is that just plastic clips with adhesive on the back? Your work is like art

A couple suggestions. 1: If you dress the cables in the reverse order than you did then you can trim them perfectly at the cabinet. I have done it the way you have in the past but ended up with a too long loop or too short corner. Just remember "Dress the end last". 2: The labels should show where the cable GOES to on the other end. Thus the "Router" label should be on the end of the cable in the switch so you can see where it goes for example. Great job on keeping it neat and tidy!

This is a super clean setup dude! I have a drop ceiling in my new home I just moved into and HVAC ducts in the way. Going to have to figure out how to route all the cat6 runs in the home cleanly from inside and outside.

I noticed that the power feed to the rack is running adjacent to the coax cable. I would probably avoid that as mains power can give off interference to the coax signal. The general rule is that you should only run mains power perpendicular to the coax - not adjacent aka side-by-side. Just a tip.

Good tip. What about if we change layout such as ; 1) Rack Tray (modem and Router) 2) Switch 3) Patch Panel 4) PDU P.S.: I live in the ground floor flat and I’ll run cables on the ground.

Nice video! First of all, what labeling machine do you use? I love the fact that it just prints anything onto a heat shrink. That's awesome! At second, why did you use soo many cable ties? What if you realize afterwards that you forgot one or two cables? That would be horrible!
@billylaguardia4 жыл бұрын
The label machine in the video is a Dymo Rhino 4200. It prints on tubes up to .75" wide. Ive been using that machine for the past few years. You can get generic non-Dymo brand labels on Amazon that are compatible. My only advice is to use clear heat shrink tube on top of the white labels if you are going to handle the cables. The white labels get dirty and the black text will eventually smudge.

Interesting setup. I was wondering if you could tell me what hardware you got (brand and stuff), looking for some suggestions myself. Want to do a similar setup like this. Namely interested in the switch and rack!

The thing I like about a PDU is that I can control the power through an ethernet connection. I can restart a component from the command line or from the smart home application of my choice.

I didn’t know we can do that. How is that possible?

Can I mount earth wire with my cat 6 cab it is necessary? To mount earth wire?
@jspafford2 жыл бұрын
Wow. Look into what a J hook is. They also make wire brackets. Or really nice is a wire rack for low voltage. A million zip ties is scary and probably will end up breaking conductors.

What i would do is get rid of router and build a pfsence router so much better and trust worthy. And have so much more control of your network!!
UPS always needs to be at the bottom, PDU does not, I actually think in most homelab configs, a center mounted one makes more sense, at least if your rack is >20U as some power cables won't be long enough to reach all the way down to the bottom

I'm never buying an audio snake again for installation purposes. Shielded Cat5/6 cables are every bit as good (or better) than Canare/Mogami snakes for analog mic/line and digital signals with regard to signal integrity and line loss, and they're a fraction of the price. Terminate to 8P8C and break out to a terminal strip using a PCB. Bob's your uncle.
