Hello or Hei from the Norwegian mountains…. We have long long winters up here, ideal for catching up on all the times in my teens and twenties when medical studies and competitive swimming interfered with my musical curiosity. However, my first wife was/is a knockout Stones fan, we ended up on the 12 th row at my first Stones concert in a 3000 capacity theatre in Glasgow Scotland. Never forget the opening number Honky Tonk, the whole auditorium were on their feet, took 30 mins to reseat them with Faraway eyes. Managed since then to see the Stones live in both London, Bergen and Oslo… Blown away each time….. I am now 71 and even more of a fan, music is life and healing, I feel the Stones are a growing part of me in my retirement years, in my secret life! I have a beautiful strong Norwegian redhead wife, we God willing will celebrate 40 years of marriage midsummer, we have sheep on our restored mountain farm. Now my wife has been talking about Goats…. Coincidence? Maybe next year, Goats Head Soup! Love your phenomenal engagement, do not stop! All best Alex, Scottish Viking, in Norway.

Hei Alex, thanks for sharing your details...great to hear! I have a few Norwegians watching. I have been to Oslo, Bergen, Bodo, and would go there tomorrow if I could. Great that you share the Stones passion with a lovely wife! Amazing to see them in such a small venue! Being around Animals is wonderful. If you can, for a laugh, check out this small clip of a New Zealand little girl on KZbin, search "fuckin goat outside" Enjoy my other docs....!! cheers Steve

Love your painstaking analysis and insights - I have felt this same passion for the Stones even since I discovered their music as a awkward teenager: The Stones spoke to me like no other band then and still do to this day....Please continue to dive into their catalog and deliver these in depth breakdowns, because people need to know as much about the greatest rock and roll band that ever was as there is to know :)

There’s nothing more I could add to what has already been said by only the most astute fans, but around the middle of your bloodletting of Brussels, I had to cry out loud. Never a better choice of words that have been prospected from only a area your soul just discovered. They’re not the reason I’ve been playing all my life ,but why not. First saw them at Steel Pier in Atlantic City when I was 13. Went on to always catch them in Philly with our collection of intellectual street ruffians, musicians and non, in 72 , 74 , 78 , 80.and 94 . (Finally got sober in 92, best thing I ever did.) Once again,thank you for all 3 parts and the stuff you put up there. Your close to the best ! Peace, Rocky

Hi Steve. Just to say many thanks for all your hard work in putting the Goats Head Soup trilogy together. Fascinated by your in depth knowledge of the band at this momentous time in their existence. I concur with a lot of your vision. 1976 was the start of my love affair at Knebworth Estate in England when I was amongst circa 200,000 to live the dream. I’ve been enraptured ever since. Take it easy and keep em coming. ✊

I have not found much other then IORR.org...Facebook groups, do not dive in, they like to share their shows they see, and show some info, but not a forum to learn. There is a good podcast from 2 canadian dudes UNDER THE RADAR, but they are not consistent with uploading content. Now I may have knew, but do not remember, Is BedSprings Sympathy the 1st or 2nd show. I did not know realize the Brussels Affair that was out there for the long time was the 1st show. thanks!! @ and I’ve read many books for the past 25 years growing up and are okay but you elaborate on certain things usually glossed over and put out there like giddy gossip, he said she said, whereas true Stoneheads like us know how important these little tidbits are to the outcome of what they put on tape for the world. For instance I love the Keith Toronto recordings soo much for many different variables. What’s in his voice at that time. The loneliness, uncertainty and just him and Stu capturing the moment in time when Gram turned Keith on to his world etc…. I think Toronto sessions deserve an official release. Don’t you? It’s basically what you said about Goats Head. Fans who know…. Know the what and why of the songs and their vibe.

The Stones always remind me of England, which I was forced to leave with the family when I was 12 - to go to Sweden where my mother was from. So right there we have something in common since most of their Women seem to be from there - but I hated Sweden and left for NZ in 1983. Hence I am a big fan and like virtually everything they ever did; also I met them when I was about 6-7 in Bournemouth in 64 or 5. I am not making it up and I will tell the story if you want; I insulted them as they were known as the "bad boys" whereas The Beatles (whom I also met briefly) were "good".. I love your videos and you have me enthusiastic all over again and pining for my young days in good old blighty... so big thanks for that. Ive got a powerfull amp setup and no neighbours for miles so when you tell me to play it LOUD they can hear The Stones in Australia... I hope the cnuts are grateful! Much Aroha from Aotearoa

Hi Steve. Thanks for all the hard work. Great videos. The Stones planned to play Cardiff Castle in Wales in September 1973. Not sure what happened but it was cancelled. I was 19 and a huge fan. Imagine my disappointment. Managed to see them in the early eighties at Wembley.
@FlipSideCT4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen....thank you! That is utter disappointment! I found this: the show was cancelled following concerns from councillors about the events of the Stones' infamous Altamont Free Concert in the US in 1969. Councillors in Pembroke also reportedly refused to hold the event at the town's historic castle fearing it would be a throwback to the days "when Cromwell invaded". However, the band returned to Wales in 1990 as part of the Urban Jungle tour at Cardiff Arms Park.

Hello Steve; High praise for the time & effort you spent on research & development of the project. The main focal point of the documentary is to open up a discussion & debate concerning Goat's Head Soup. Rambling is part of the feeling one has for their production. Call it a post documentary explanation. Fans of the group will purchase the LP regardless of cost. The down side being this material should have been released years ago. For Exile on Main Street the 4th mix was used. Maybe one day we will hear the others. I don't know how many mixes were done for Goat's Head Soup, & which ones were used. The video helps explain & tie up loose ends. Your analysis is as good a description as any. As far as live performances go we never know how many overdubs are done to make the recording presentable. The comparison between the bootlegs & the official releases on a performance level would be a good topic to discuss. Overall the video adds to the discussion. Well done as always. Very informative. Looking forward to more LP reviews. Tina & Pat!~

Hi and well said T&P....the REMIX is another breed. When I went to see the Stones Exhibitionism, one of the cool pieces in the exhibit was for a few songs, you were allowed to have hands on to mix a few songs yourself. 10 people mix = 10 different versions. I am with you Steve. The years 1969 to 1974 are my go-to Stones years too. Or simply put in Stones fan album lingo: Let it Bleed to Its Only Rock & Roll and everything in between. You got me insanely curious about the Four Alternate Takes. I got to hear them. Thanks for the heads up on a few of the tracks 'Crisscross Man' and 'All That Rage'. I want to hear them but I am not expecting anything Exile worthy earth shattering. I think I may have heard Scarlet. I do remember Through The Lonely Nights and Jimmy playing on it. This is the kick that I needed to do so. An outstanding forty nine minutes and nine seconds Steve. It flew by. The perfect way to end my week off from work on this Sunday evening. I guess we can still ask that, and get an idea of someone's tasting flavor of music. Being a guitar player, I benefited with some additional insight and geekness. cheers and thank you steve

Goat Heads Soup...How great a ear you have sir! A absolute lost art for us common folk that just dig the music and meanings of every song. 90 percent of people say they love a song and no clue of what it all about...The Meaning in the minds of those dudes in the studio at the time. When albums were about where the groups mindset were at that time. I love Zep and Page, many great songs of his, all about where they were at the times in there lives! Very hard to find people like you, that can have such a in depth, educated conversation about just a lick at a part in a song! I hope you do a few of Zep, especially Page, as he is one tough nut to crack...kept so much under wraps unlike Keith did. Great work. I would think you would of had to been a rock beat writer? Kevin.

There are some folks that rather hate, judge, complain, disagree, or just not be in the same groove. I get about 2-3% negative, and they get an earful and can never comment again. Yes, I am a Page fan and recognize and marvel at his genius work. I do dissect his playing on my own. Growing up in the 70's he felt light years away from us, and could only live thru his music. Now there are some really good books out there on him that I would love to read up on. I am very back logged on book reading and in addition these doc I make take 100+ hours at least. On top of that, throw in other things I watch and do. Maybe in time I will, who knows.....a light bulb may go off, I just never know. No articles from me, I just like to compile info and present it!

I bought this set strictly for the Brussels Affair. I first heard this as a radio broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio show in '74. It was rerun several times through '76. The Stones gave it to the radio when they realized a live album wasn't in the cards. That was one of the sources for the bootlegs, and why those early bootlegs had such good sound.

Great live era for sure. So natural. I love seeing the feirce youthful footage from this time. In regards to Criss Cross...it's a fantastic song. I do prefer the original bootleg version that has that longer buildup riff and doesn't have the toe to toe, etc lyrics. What I do really love about this official version is how much louder Keith's open G guitar is in the right channel - simple, fantastic, and very All down the line/ Brown Sugar stuff. I had to stop listening to the boot version to get acclimated to this one, which I have over the years now. Not sure why they would cut out that longer intro and chose this take over over that one. Thanks for clearing up that main guitar is being played by Jagger. The new vocal work on All the Rage definitely feels out of place for me to this very fun and familiar style song (elements of Honky Tonk Women and Good Time Women) . I like how the main riff by Keith is a bit of a prelude to what he would later do on Little T & A. Scarlet is good and the perfect example of what keith and Mick are and how they blance each other. Keith's riffs and vocals are so ragged and Mick brings a smoother structure, which works well enough here.

Great finish! I really enjoyed all your hard work. I like the new mix of GHS, because my biggest complaint of the record was that it seemed like I was listening to it through the gauze the Stones have on their heads on the cover, and it still has the right sound, but I think it's easier to listen to now. My biggest complaint about the box is the price. My local store sold it to me for 120, no shipping and tax was included in the price. So the double GHS is like 35 bucks, so figure Brussels should be the same. It cost fifty bucks for a cardboard box! But this is the first time they've made Brussels even remotely available to a normal person on vinyl, and like you, I think that record is as good as it gets. I think it's great that they fix up the outtakes and finish them, because I used to sit around and listen to unfinished tracks all the time, but I just don't seem as interested anymore. I haven't felt like listening to So Divine in the bootleg form in ages, but I like the Exile extra disk, it's just too bad it wasn't on vinyl. Now I'm geeking out and rambling, but I just wanted to take a minute to say, "Nice job!"

Thank you Rick for sharing the great comment and support! I think you said it well...IT IS EASIER TO LISTEN TO.....that is a good comment! Agreed with the pricing. Look at their venue prices.....I have not seen them since 98 and I got in for free. I can not afford those. I look at it as, sell a few albums I do not really listen to to get something I want better. It will be interesting to see how BAffair alone moves along in the used market now. I stay limited with the outtakes and unfinished tracks, as they are about sound quality. I can only listen/tolerate soundboard. I understand the sitting around part....it was fun doing it together with other friends who were just as interested (years ago). I did not know Exile DID NOT come out in vinyl with the extra tracks. Love the geekiness, always! thanks again Steve
