HUGE THANKS to Danny of Hill Country Performance & Machine for agreeing to do this video with me! I am beyond grateful, and I can't wait to have this turbo mounted back onto my 7M yayyyyyy!!!
Note: I am not linking the eBay rebuild kit because that link isn't going to last very long and I don't feel like constantly updating it SO just look up "CT26 turbo rebuild kit" on eBay like we did and pick a good one!!

Damn it, that's a lot to take in for someone that's not a mechanic; but it's perfectly shown and explained, with the right tools, and this video as another tool, i could replicate it.

Better than assembly lube and priming, I saw a turbo where the oil lines were replaced with zerk fittings. Worked perfectly. For almost 60 seconds.

This is tremendously empowering. This morning I didn't want a turbo and now I can actually imagine servicing one.

I always, always always lubricate O-rings. Metal surfaces can have a microscopic “five o’clock shadow” that snags an o-ring. Lube helps it right itself and promotes a smoother assembly. When I worked in a transmission shop we had tubs of blue assembly paste that is awesome. That’s how you keep those little ball bearings in place when re-assembling the valve body in an automatic.

Assembly grease in action! Danny and Faye, you make this look simple if you know the rules. Silly chicken holding that treat for the girls. Mysterious chicken reasoning as she squawks each time. BTW your hubby’s favorite rooster of mine is a proud Pappa of 6 jet black feather legged sweeties.

Great video, Faye. Danny is an amazing machinist, with great attention to detail. That's what makes the difference between a turbo that works and one that doesn't. As always, the chicken video is so cute.

On industrial cats, we rigged oil circ pumps that ran when the engine came off line to discourage coking. We had them on when the engine was off because these engines were emergency standby driving municipal water pumps. Always well lubed turbos. For instant on-no warm up.

Faye I have been following the progress of your SUPRA and I just want to thank you for making all of these videos. If you go to a gentlemen's web site his name is GREG ACOSTA he also has a SUPRA but what he did is he put a GOPRO inside of his intake manifold and showed how things worked inside of there. I just thought that you might be interested in seeing this. Thanks again for all your work. Herman from Waco.

The detail in Yalls video is amazing and so much appreciated! This video makes me want to try and rebuild my own turbo! Great job Yall! I would love to see you and Danny do a video on compound Turbos and how to choose two turbos to work with each other. Since I mainly work with diesel motors, My main goal is good power with no black smoke. I know compounds are the way to go, but would love a video that explains the in and outs of choosing two turbos based on motor size and fuel type. Again Great Video! I really appreciate all the work and education you put in your videos!

Great video! Especially thanks to Danny for the advice on orings! I have some stubborn one on my DV6TED4 turbo diesel. It goes between a turbo's cold side outlet and an intake pipe and the pipe needs to be pressed in and then rotated. And every time I put on a new one it always rips and leaks even with a special lube. Next time I will try to use a pick to rest it! P.S. Hello from Russia!

Thank you sOooo much for this series. I’m entertaining rebuilding my stock ct26 on my 91’ 7mgte. My front cassette fins are pretty chewed up after I realized I was sucking in rocks or material from a split accordion hose. I’m amazed at how much this master rebuilder has been graciously sharing with us. Are the brass punches really that effective at easing the removal? I had never heard of this and the vibration method, though it makes perfect sense. Thank you again for the videos and the time to put these together. I may try and rebuild or try to send to you or Danny if he rebuilds turbos shipped all the way from VA. ✌🏼

Tech Tip>> If the inner bearing takes snap rings make sure to put the smooth side against the bearing.... To make the turbo more presentable spray the turbine housing with dry moly. It drys fast and makes the cast iron parts look new.

I need to rebuild my STI turbo. After hearing what you said about someone might have bored the hole out and an oversized bearing may be needed. I assume that I should take it apart first before ordering a rebuild kit. Like I do when rebuilding an engine I clean everything and measure everything and than order parts.

From an engineering stand it's a rule of thumb to never reuse any seals. With the exception of the manufacturer specifying that's the case. Reason being is the amount of heat cycles and wear. Another point I'd be cautious is the torque specification. He did follow the marking. Did he check if the unit was to the torque specification? Heat cycles and worn parts can affect tolerances like torque specifications. Time will tell how well the unit going to last. I don't recommend this.. cough cough .. but if you bought a new unit took it apart and reused those parts bc it has zero heat cycles on the seals, that! would be better than using the rebuilt kit. Then return the "new" unit back to the manufacturer. That would be a more solid build than his.
